About this appAI proposal
Quietbooks takes over the repetitive part of small-business accounting. It pulls in bank, card and invoice data, cleans it into one format, applies your categorization and reconciliation rules, and checks that the books balance. Anything it can't settle goes into a short review list.
It is built for small business owners and bookkeepers who repeat the same steps every month. Each fix you make to an exception can become a rule, so the same question does not come back next month.
Every entry shows the rule that created it, so nothing is a black box. Tax strategy and unusual cases stay with you or your accountant. Quietbooks does the routine and hands over the rest cleanly.

- Why this name
- Quiet describes the aim: a month of bookkeeping that makes little noise because rules handle the repeats. Books is the plain word owners already use.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Owners and bookkeepers send accountants and clients a report link showing the checked, reconciled books with a small Quietbooks mark. Accountants who open it can see how the rules and checks work.
- Do they become customers?
- Accountants who open a link may adopt it for their own clients, but a one-time viewer is not a customer. Test whether any viewers start an account or ask to import a client's books.
- First customers
- Freelance bookkeepers who serve 5 to 20 small service businesses and repeat the same monthly categorization and reconciliation for each.
- Where to reach them
- Bookkeeper communities: Post in bookkeeping forums and groups with a month-close walkthrough, and offer free setup of the first client's rules.
- Hacker News and founder forums: Share the rule-based approach with owners who do their own books and ask for real exports to try.
- Direct outreach: Message independent bookkeepers by email and offer a free trial month on one client.
- First milestone
- Ten bookkeepers each run one client's month through Quietbooks, and at least five pay for a second month.
Why people already pay for this
- AI inferenceAccounting at the small-business level is highly rule-based and deterministic, with established practices like double-entry bookkeeping, predefined charts of accounts, and tax rules that apply consistently.
- VerifiedHacker News post received 64 points and 55 comments
- AI inferenceAccounting has objective verification: the books either balance or they don't, and ledgers either reconcile or they don't, providing clear ground truth.
- Public claimAccounting work is repetitive and monotonous, with the same patterns recurring monthly, making it well-suited for automation.

RisksAI inference
- DataBank and card exports vary widely in format. Messy or incomplete files can cause wrong matches, and import coverage will take ongoing work.
- CommercialOwners may already have bookkeeping habits or tools they trust. Switching cost may be high unless the first month visibly saves hours.
- RegulatoryReports may be mistaken for tax or financial advice. Tax rules vary by place, so the product must stay within bookkeeping and say so.
- TechnicalReconciliation edge cases such as split payments, partial refunds and multi-currency can break simple matching rules.
- PlatformLive bank connections would need a third-party data aggregator. The first version relies on file import, which adds manual steps.
