About this appAI proposal
Tidepool lets an AI agent work on a sandbox clone of your virtual machines and Kubernetes clusters instead of on production. The agent looks at real configuration, runs commands, tests changes, and then writes Terraform, OpenTofu or Ansible that matches how your systems actually behave.
It is for infrastructure engineers and DevOps teams who want AI help but do not want an agent holding production access. Access is short-lived, commands run in a sandbox, and sensitive steps wait for a human to approve them.
Unlike asking a model to write infrastructure code from a description alone, the agent has seen the real system. Unlike giving it direct access, nothing it does can touch production.

- Why this name
- A sandbox is a small, safe place to try things. Tidepool suggests a contained pool cut off from the sea, where you can watch closely.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Sandbox clones of real systems
Capture the state of a VM or cluster and rebuild it as an isolated copy the agent can explore freely.

Ephemeral SSH certificates
Each session gets a short-lived certificate scoped to one host and one purpose. It expires on its own.
No member yet
Human approval gates
Mark sensitive commands as needing sign-off. The agent pauses until a named person approves or denies.
No member yet
Sandboxed command execution
Commands run inside the clone with limits on network and files, so a bad command stays contained.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no competitor prices. These tiers are a starting point to test, following the opportunity's idea of tiers by concurrent sandboxes, deployment size and support.

What it could be worthEstimate

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Engineers share a run report and the generated IaC diff with teammates and reviewers, including the sandbox evidence of what was tested, as a link or pull request description carrying the Tidepool name.
- Do they become customers?
- Reviewers are usually engineers on the same team, so some could become users. Test whether a shared report link leads reviewers to start their own sandbox, or whether they only read it once.
- First customers
- Platform engineers at small SaaS companies (10 to 50 engineers) running a few dozen VMs or one Kubernetes cluster, who already write Terraform or Ansible.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News Show HN: Post a demo of a sandbox run producing a tested Ansible playbook, since the idea was raised there.
- DevOps communities: Offer free pilots in Kubernetes and infrastructure Slack and Discord groups, with a write-up of the safety model.
- Direct outreach: Message platform leads at small SaaS firms offering a guided first sandbox on a non-critical host.
- First milestone
- Five teams run sandbox sessions on real infrastructure weekly for a month, and two pay for a plan.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimLLMs generate infrastructure-as-code tools well but lack understanding of how production systems actually work
- Public claimDirect LLM access to production infrastructure creates real security risks
- Public claimSandbox exploration with command execution and testing before deployment improves infrastructure-as-code quality

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalFaithfully cloning a live VM or cluster, including state, networking and secrets, is hard. A clone that differs from production could produce code that fails there.
- RegulatoryClones may copy sensitive data or credentials. Customers may need data masking and clear rules before they allow cloning.
- AIThe agent may still write wrong or unsafe IaC. Sandbox success does not guarantee safe behaviour in production, so human review stays necessary.
- CommercialHosting sandboxes costs compute, and the material gives no evidence of what teams will pay. Usage pricing may not cover costs.
- PlatformGeneral coding agents or cloud providers could add similar sandbox features, which would reduce the need for a separate tool.
