About this appAI proposal
Pennyline gives you inline code completion and a small chat box in your editor, and charges only for what you use. There is no monthly base fee. In a quiet month your bill can be a few cents, and a spending cap you set keeps it from going past that.
It is built for individual developers and small teams who use AI for completions now and then, not for long agent runs. Pennyline leaves out agent features on purpose, so the price stays tied to the small tasks you actually do.
A web dashboard, installable as an app, shows each day's usage and what it cost. Teams can share one balance and give each member a limit.

- Why this name
- Pennies are what light users want to pay, and a line is what a completion adds to code. Two plain words, easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
No monthly base fee
Pay per completion or per token. Months you barely code cost almost nothing, with no unused credits to waste.

Hard spending cap

PricingAI proposal
GitHub's pricing page (verified) lists paid plans from $4 to $21 a month; commenters cite $10 for Copilot Pro. The material gives no per-use rates, so these tiers are a starting point to test.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Reached through developer communities, content on what light usage actually costs, and extension marketplace search. Team balances give some invites, but this is not the main loop.
- Do they become customers?
- Everyone reached is a developer who could pay. Test whether people on flat plans switch after seeing their usage cost on a sample bill.
- First customers
- Solo developers and freelancers on VS Code who use completion a few times a week and pay for or dropped a flat-rate assistant.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Post threads on light-user pricing; offer a usage-cost calculator and free starter credit.
- VS Code extension marketplace: List a free-to-install extension with clear per-use pricing.
- First milestone
- 50 developers install it and 15 add a payment method and use it for two months.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedGitHub Copilot's pricing page lists 2 paid plans, from $4 to $21 a month, plus a free plan
- Public claimCopilot Pro subscription costs $10/month, which developers using basic code completion feel is wasteful when they don't consume significant usage.
- Public claimDevelopers using AI coding assistants for basic VS Code completion don't use more advanced features like Chat or agentic tools.
- Public claimThe market is segmenting: heavy users moving to agentic usage, but light code-completion users are being priced out of the subscription model.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialLight users pay little, so revenue per user is small. Margin depends on model cost per completion and on low support cost.
- PlatformEditor extension marketplaces and their rules for inline completion can change, and bigger vendors can add a pay-per-use plan.
- AICompletion quality and latency must match what developers already use, or light users will stay on a flat plan.
- TechnicalSending code to a third-party model raises privacy concerns; users need clear retention terms.
