About this appAI proposal
Swatchbox turns a reference image into a small, usable palette. Drop in a photo, a screenshot or a pixel-art sprite and get a set of dominant colours with plain names, ready to copy or export. You choose how many colours you want, from 3 to 24.
The image is processed in your browser on your device. It is not uploaded to a server. After the first visit the app works offline, so reference images stay with you.
Palettes are kept in named collections. Naming rules, merge of near-duplicate colours and export formats are set once and reused. It is made for designers and pixel artists who find other palettes cluttered or tied to a subscription.
- Tagline
- Fewer colours, better names, nothing leaves your device.

- Why this name
- A swatch is the colour sample designers know, and a box suggests a tidy, local place to keep them. Two plain words joined.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
On-device extraction
Colour quantization runs locally in the browser. Images are never sent to our servers.

Palette size you control
Pick an exact colour count. Near-duplicates are merged so the result is not cluttered.

Pixel-art mode
Keeps exact colours from sprites and indexed art instead of averaging them into blends.

Semantic names
Each colour gets a readable name and a role hint such as background, accent or shadow. Rename any of them.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users share a palette as a link or a PNG swatch card with a small Swatchbox mark. Viewers can open the palette and copy the colours or export it.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are often other designers who could become users, but a link opened once is not a customer. Test how many shared-palette views lead to a first extraction.
- First customers
- Solo pixel artists and indie game developers who share work publicly and dislike subscriptions.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and open-source communities: Engage in threads on palette extraction tools and offer a free hosted web version to those users.
- Pixel-art forums and Discords: Share palette posts made with Swatchbox and collect feedback on pixel-art mode.
- Designer social posts: Post before-and-after palettes with the on-device privacy point.
- First milestone
- Fifty weekly active users and ten paid Lifetime purchases from pixel artists within 60 days of launch.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedGitHub repository gained 300 stars in 3 days
- Public claimDesigners and pixel artists seek color palette extraction without subscriptions or privacy-invasive cloud uploads
- Public claimThere is demand for AI-powered color palette generation from images in the creator community
- Public claimExisting tools have limitations in palette cleanliness and organization compared to the need

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalBrowser memory and speed limits on large images and big batches may make extraction slow on older phones and laptops.
- CommercialFree palette tools are plentiful. Willingness to pay for a PWA, versus a desktop app, is unproven.
- AIAutomatic names and role hints may feel arbitrary or wrong. Users need quick rename and good defaults.
- PlatformPWAs have weaker file access and no direct plugin hooks into design tools, so integration is limited to file export at first.
- DataEvidence is public claims plus one verified star count on GitHub. Stars show interest but not payment.
