About this appAI proposal
Tallyfold shows where your AI model spend goes. It breaks usage down by model and version into input and output tokens, applies the price for each, and shows the math behind the percentage your plan dashboard reports.
It is built for developers and technical teams who use several models on subscription or API access and want to see why one version uses a plan up faster than another. Compare versions side by side and see what a swap would have cost.
Unlike a single percentage bar, Tallyfold keeps a history of usage and of price changes, so you can tell whether a jump came from your own traffic or from a pricing change. Every price is labelled with its source and date.

- Why this name
- Tally means to count; fold suggests unfolding a hidden total into its parts. Two plain words joined, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Per-model token breakdown
Input and output tokens split by model and version, by day, project or API key, so aggregate percentages become real counts.

Itemized cost math
Every line shows tokens times the rate used, so you can check how a total was calculated.

Version price comparison
Replay last week's usage on another model version and see the cost and plan-share difference.
No member yet
Price change history
Rates are stored with effective dates, so a past bill is explained with the prices of that day.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no competitor prices. Tiers follow the freemium idea in the opportunity (free basics, paid breakdowns, alerts, multi-account) and are a starting point to test.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users share cost breakdown links and CSV reports with teammates, finance or clients, each showing the Tallyfold name and the math behind a total.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are often engineers or budget owners with the same problem, so they could sign up. Test how many shared-report viewers create an account.
- First customers
- Small engineering teams of 3 to 20 people that use two or more AI models through APIs and have one person responsible for the monthly bill.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News: Post a Show HN with a free breakdown tool, where complaints about opaque usage and pricing already appear.
- Developer communities: Offer help in AI tooling forums and Discords, with a free CSV import analyzer.
- Direct outreach: Message engineering leads who post about AI costs, offering a free cost review.
- First milestone
- Ten teams connect real usage and five pay for Pro within 60 days.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimUsers cannot see how token usage and pricing per model is calculated in subscription plans
- Public claimPrice differences between model versions are unclear in their impact on usage
- Public claimUsers want more visibility into usage limits and pricing on subscription plans
- AI inferenceAPI pricing has changed significantly (50% reduction)

RisksAI inference
- DataProviders may not expose token-level usage for subscription plans. The first version may rely on API usage data and manual import, which would cover only part of the audience.
- PlatformProviders could add their own itemized dashboards, removing the main reason to use a separate tool.
- CommercialDevelopers may see cost tracking as a free feature and resist paying, especially solo users.
- TechnicalPrices and model versions change often. Rate tables need upkeep, and wrong rates would erode trust.
- RegulatoryHandling customers' provider keys and usage data raises security expectations and may conflict with some providers' terms.
