About this appAI proposal
Steppingstone finds the exact skill a student is missing, teaches it, and lets them move on only after they show mastery at 90% or more. Each student gets a path built from their own gaps, not a grade or a percentile.
An AI tutor teaches each skill in a short loop: a quick diagnostic, a mini-lesson, guided practice, feedback, then an independent check. It gives hints and questions, not answers. Teachers see who is stuck and on which skill.
Built for teachers with mixed-level classes, microschools, homeschool parents and small schools. It aims to teach the skill, not just hand out practice sheets.

- Why this name
- A stepping stone is one solid step at a time, which is how mastery learning works: secure each skill before the next.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Skill-level diagnosis
A short adaptive check maps which specific skills a student has and lacks, so the next step is one named skill, not a broad standard.

Personal learning path
Each student gets an ordered list of skills built from their gaps, with prerequisites first. Paths update after every check.

Mini-lessons before practice
Every skill starts with short direct instruction and worked examples, so students are taught first and only then practice.

Scaffolding AI tutor
The tutor asks guiding questions and gives graded hints. It is set to never reveal the final answer to a practice problem.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Parents and teachers get shareable skill reports and weekly progress links. Parents see which skills were mastered and what comes next, and can forward them to tutors, co-op groups or other parents.
- Do they become customers?
- Parents who open a report are likely buyers of the family plan, but teachers are the main buyers. Test whether report links lead to family sign-ups, and whether homeschool groups share them.
- First customers
- Microschool founders and homeschool co-op leaders teaching 10 to 40 students in grades 4 to 8 math, who lack a tutor for each child.
- Where to reach them
- Microschool communities: Offer free pilots in microschool founder groups and forums, with a setup call and weekly progress notes.
- Homeschool co-ops: Run a four-week trial with co-op leaders and share parent progress links within the group.
- Hacker News and edtech posts: Share pilot results and how the tutor avoids giving away answers; invite educators to test it.
- First milestone
- Ten paying microschools or co-ops after a four-week pilot, with most students mastering at least five skills.

- Public claimTeachers struggle to deliver differentiated instruction to 30 students with 30 different sets of needs, with some needing remediation, some acceleration, and many needing individual tutoring support.
- Public claimExisting personalized-learning products often feel like digital worksheets that provide practice but not much diagnosis or teaching, with very few having AI tutors providing core instruction.
- AI inferenceMost students and teachers see learning gaps at the wrong resolution, receiving only broad grades, percentiles, benchmark scores, or standards rather than specific next-skill diagnosis.

RisksAI inference
- AIThe tutor may leak answers, teach wrongly, or misjudge a gap. Needs reviewed skill content, answer checks and teacher review of flagged sessions.
- DataStudent data brings privacy duties for minors (such as FERPA and COPPA in the US). Consent, retention and school agreements must be handled before pilots.
- CommercialSchool sales cycles are slow and buyers may prefer established tools. Starting with microschools and families may not scale to districts.
- TechnicalBuilding a skill map with prerequisites and enough quality items for each skill takes content work beyond software. Start with one subject.
- CommercialLearning gains from the early pilot in the material are a public claim from another product. Our outcomes are unproven until tested.
