About this appAI proposal
Twinpane is a companion for developers who let AI agents edit their code in VSCode or a VSCode-based editor. Agent changes land on a branch. Twinpane opens them in a side-by-side review, task by task, on your phone or laptop, so you can approve or reject before anything merges.
It also shows what each task cost in tokens, whichever model or key you use. You keep your editor, your extension registry and your settings sync. Twinpane does not replace the editor; it adds the review and cost view that people say AI editors lack.
Rejecting a task reverts only the files that task touched, not unrelated edits made by you or by another task.

- Why this name
- Twinpane names the core view: before and after in two panes. It is two plain words, easy to say, and says what the product does.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Side-by-side task review
Every agent task opens as before and after panes with file tree, so you judge the whole change instead of scrolling a single inline diff.

Token cost per task
See input, output and cached tokens and the cost of each task, so you can compare models and spot wasteful runs.

Scoped undo
Reject one task and only the files it changed are reverted. Your own edits and other tasks stay as they are.

Works with your editor
Reads agent work from Git branches, so it fits VSCode and its forks without a separate registry or settings.

PricingAI proposal
Cursor's verified pricing page lists a free plan, two paid plans from $20 to $40 a month, and prices on request for larger customers. Twinpane is a companion, so these tiers sit below that range as a starting point to test.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. A reviewer gets a link to a task review page: side-by-side diff, cost and notes. Teammates open it without installing anything, comment, and approve. The page carries the Twinpane name and a prompt to start a workspace.
- Do they become customers?
- Reviewers are developers on the same team, so they can become paying users. Test whether link recipients start their own workspace, or only approve once and leave.
- First customers
- Small engineering teams of 3 to 15 developers who already use an AI editor daily and merge agent-written code through pull requests.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News Show HN: Post a demo of reviewing an agent branch side by side, with the cost view, where the complaints about missing review were raised.
- VSCode extension marketplace: Publish a small extension that tags agent tasks and sends a branch to Twinpane.
- Developer subreddits and Discords: Offer free early access in AI coding communities and ask for feedback on review flow.
- First milestone
- Ten teams review at least 20 agent tasks each in a month, and five of them pay for the Team plan.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimAI code editors lack side-by-side code review features
- Public claimCursor has poor VSCode ecosystem integration
- Public claimAgent terminal features are unreliable in Cursor
- Public claimCursor has undo bugs affecting multiple files
- Public claimCursor is token inefficient and expensive relative to competitors

RisksAI inference
- CommercialEditors may add their own side-by-side review, which would remove the main reason to use a separate tool.
- TechnicalScoped undo depends on clean task boundaries in Git. Agents that edit files outside a task branch may make the revert unreliable.
- DataToken costs need usage data from providers or editors. Some may not expose it, so numbers may be estimates for some setups.
- PlatformAccess to private code through a GitHub app needs trust and a security review before teams will connect repositories.
- CommercialThe evidence is public claims from one forum. It is not verified that developers would pay for a companion rather than a full editor.
