About this appAI proposal
Seatcap sits between your engineers and the AI model they already use for coding. Each engineer gets a monthly cap, the team shares a pool, and finance sees a forecast before the invoice, not after it. Nobody is cut off mid-task without warning.
It is built for engineering leads at companies where specialist software is already a normal line item, such as chip and electronics design. Public comments in the material describe teams paying $4,000 to $8,000 a month in API tokens and worrying about price changes. Seatcap turns that into a number you can plan.
Seatcap does not replace your assistant and does not lock you to one vendor. You bring your own model keys, switch models per task, and see cost next to work shipped, so the question of AI versus another hire has data behind it.

- Why this name
- A seat is one engineer's place; a cap is the limit you can plan around. Two plain words that say what the product does.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Per-seat and pool caps
Set a monthly cap per engineer and a shared team pool. Soft limits warn first; hard limits can be turned on per person.

Month-end forecast
Projects spend from current pace and flags who and which projects will pass the cap, days before it happens.

Bring your own keys
Route requests with your own provider keys. Swap models or providers without changing how engineers work.

Cost per merged change
Link usage to repositories and pull requests so you can see cost next to output, not only tokens.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no verified competitor prices. Only a public claim of $4,000-8,000 a month in token spend. Seatcap charges for control, not tokens; tiers are a starting point to test.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Engineering leads send the monthly report link to finance and executives, who see the spend, forecast and the Seatcap name without having an account.
- Do they become customers?
- Finance viewers might ask for the same view for other teams, but they may only read it. Test whether report viewers request accounts or introduce a second team.
- First customers
- Engineering managers at chip and electronics design companies with 10 to 50 engineers already paying for AI coding through API tokens.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News threads: Join discussions on AI coding costs and offer a free spend forecast sheet built on the same method.
- Direct outreach: Message engineering leads in electronics design firms with a one-page example report on their own usage.
- First milestone
- Five teams in one vertical connect real usage data, and two pay for Business within 60 days.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimCompanies in chip and electronics design already spend $10,000 to $200,000 per seat annually on specialized software.
- Public claimAn enterprise customer would pay $4,000-8,000 per month for a reliable AI coding assistant at their company.
- Public claimSome enterprise Claude users are already paying that amount through API token usage.
- Public claimAI coding assistants deliver at least 2X productivity improvement for engineering work.
- Public claimThe productivity gains from AI coding assistants justify their cost compared to hiring additional developers.

RisksAI inference
- PlatformModel providers may add their own team budgets and caps, or change API terms, shrinking the reason to use a separate layer.
- TechnicalA proxy in the request path adds delay and a failure point. If it goes down, engineers stop working, so it needs a bypass mode.
- DataPrompts may contain proprietary chip or electronics design code. Buyers may refuse a third party in the path; metadata-only mode must be tested.
- CommercialThe $4,000-8,000 figure is a public claim. Teams may not pay for budgeting alone when it saves them only part of the spend.
