About this appAI proposal
Tollgate runs end-to-end tests for web and mobile apps from plain-language specs. You write what a user should be able to do, such as sign up, add to cart and pay. An AI agent works out the steps, runs them in a real browser and reports what broke.
It is built for small engineering teams who want confidence in core flows but do not want to build and babysit test infrastructure. Tollgate handles test users, logins and staging setup, so you do not script them yourself.
When your UI changes, the agent adapts the steps instead of failing on a renamed selector. You review the changes it made. Runs happen on a schedule or on each deploy, and a failure comes with a recording and a short written reason.

- Why this name
- A tollgate is where traffic is checked before it passes. Tollgate checks your key flows before a release goes out. Two plain words joined, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Plain-language test specs
Describe a flow in a few sentences. The agent turns it into steps and runs it. No test code to write or review.

Self-repairing tests
When the interface changes, the agent updates the steps and shows you the change to approve, instead of just failing.

Managed test users and logins
Store test accounts and sign-in methods once. Tollgate signs in for each run and resets state where you tell it to.

Runs on deploy or schedule
Trigger from a deploy webhook or CI step, or run hourly or nightly against staging or production.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Each run produces a shareable report link with steps, recording and verdict. Engineers paste it into pull requests, Slack and release notes, where teammates, PMs and contractors see it and the Tollgate name.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are often teammates on the same team, and some may be buyers, but many are only reading. Test whether report viewers click through and whether a second team member starts a trial.
- First customers
- Startups of 3 to 15 engineers shipping a web app with AI coding tools, with a checkout or signup flow tied to revenue and no dedicated QA person.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Show HN: Post a demo that tests a public sample app, with the shared report link, and answer comments on test reliability.
- Indie and startup founder communities: Offer free setup of three critical flows to founders in forums and Slack groups, in exchange for feedback.
- Developer content: Write guides on testing AI-generated code and checkout flows, each ending with a runnable example spec.
- First milestone
- Five teams in one segment paying for a month, each with at least three flows running on every deploy.

RisksAI inference
- AIAgents may pass a broken flow or fail a working one. False results erode trust fast, so each verdict needs recorded evidence and a way to correct the agent.
- CommercialTeams already switching between established tools may find it hard to move again. The material names no competitors, so differentiation on reliability needs proof.
- TechnicalRunning real browsers at scale, with logins, MFA and flaky third-party pages, is costly and hard. Compute cost per run could break the margin on flat tiers.
- TechnicalNative mobile app testing needs emulators or devices. The first version covers phone-sized web flows only, which may not satisfy mobile-first teams.
- DataStoring test credentials and running against production touches sensitive data. It needs encryption, scoped accounts and clear guidance for customers.
