About this appAI proposal
Shortlist is a focused resume screening tool for hiring managers and recruiters. Paste a job description, confirm the criteria it pulls out, and drop in a stack of resumes. Within minutes you get a ranked list where every score links to the lines in the resume that earned it.
It does one job instead of replacing your whole ATS. You choose what matters, add short screening questions for candidates, and review results side by side. Scoring ignores names, photos and addresses by default, so the first pass looks at the work history and skills.
A person always makes the call. Shortlist suggests, explains and lets you override any score, so the first pass is faster without handing the decision to a model.

- Why this name
- A shortlist is the output hiring managers actually want. The word is plain, pronounceable and says what the tool hands back.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Hiring managers send ranked shortlist links to their teams. Candidates open screening-question links branded with Shortlist. Both put the product in front of people who do not use it yet.
- Do they become customers?
- Team reviewers are likely hiring managers and could become buyers. Candidates are not. Test whether shared shortlist viewers create accounts and start their own roles.
- First customers
- Hiring managers and recruiters at companies with 20 to 200 staff, hiring several roles a year without a dedicated recruiting team.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and founder forums: Share the instant sample run and a write-up of how scores are explained, where the ATS bloat complaint is already discussed.
- LinkedIn outreach: Message heads of operations and people leads at small companies with open roles, offering a free screening of their current stack.
- HR and recruiter communities: Offer free pilots in recruiter groups and ask for feedback on fairness and score quality.
- First milestone
- Ten teams screen a real role on the free tier, and three pay for the $299 plan within 60 days.

RisksAI inference
- RegulatoryAutomated hiring tools face bias-audit and disclosure rules in some places. Buyers may ask for proof of fairness testing, which adds cost before larger sales.
- AIModels can reproduce bias or misread unusual resumes. Cited evidence and human override help, but scoring quality needs testing on real resume sets.
- DataResumes hold personal data. Retention, deletion and candidate consent need clear handling from the first version.
- CommercialThe only price evidence is an unverified public claim. Buyers may stay with their ATS's built-in screening, or not pay $299 a month.
- TechnicalParsing scanned or oddly formatted PDFs is error-prone and can silently lower a good candidate's score.
