About this appAI proposal
Pickup Desk answers the phone for your shop when your hands are busy. It greets the caller, finds out what they need, checks your open slots and books the appointment. Anything it cannot handle goes to you as a short text with the caller's number and the reason.
It is built for owners of mechanic shops, repair shops and salons who cannot justify a full-time receptionist. You set hours, services and rules once, and pay a low monthly fee instead of a salary.
Every call ends in a clear result: booked, message taken or handed to you. You see all of it in one daily list, so nothing depends on memory or a scrap of paper.

- Why this name
- Picking up the phone is the whole job, and a desk is where a shop's calls land. Two plain words, easy to say aloud.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Callers talk to the desk but do not use the product. Reach comes from direct sales, local content and word of mouth between shop owners.
- Do they become customers?
- Callers are customers of the shop, not buyers. Test whether owners in one trade pay after a free trial week and refer other owners.
- First customers
- Independent mechanic shops with one to five staff in one metro area, where the owner also answers the phone.
- Where to reach them
- Direct visits and calls: Visit shops, show a live demo call, and offer a free trial week on their own number.
- Trade groups and forums: Share missed-call stories and the demo in independent repair owner communities.
- Local referrals: Ask happy shops to introduce neighbouring shops and salons for a month free.
- First milestone
- Ten mechanic shops in one city paying monthly after a free trial week, with most calls resolved without owner help.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimSmall service businesses can save thousands of dollars with a receptionist but hiring is too expensive relative to those savings
- Public claimBusiness owners recognize reception is valuable but face cost constraints in hiring

RisksAI inference
- AIThe voice agent may mishear, promise something wrong or quote a price. Needs strict rules, approved answers and easy handoff, and must be tested on noisy shop calls.
- RegulatoryRecording calls and sending texts have consent and disclosure rules that vary by location. Callers must be told it is an AI, and text consent must be handled.
- CommercialPer-call voice costs may squeeze margin on a low price. Owners may also distrust AI answering their customers.
- TechnicalCall latency and dropped audio make conversations feel awkward. Phone quality depends on the telephony provider.
- CommercialThe evidence is only public claims from one forum. Willingness to pay at these prices is untested.
