About this appAI proposal
Tollgate Keys gives AI agent builders a managed place to connect agents to third-party services. Pick a service, your end user signs in once, and your agent calls it through one consistent interface. Tokens, refreshes, rate limits and retries are handled for you.
It is made for AI/ML engineers and small founding teams who today write and maintain a custom integration for every API, including auth, rate limiting, error handling and data transformation.
It differs by focusing on agent behaviour: every call is traced to the agent run that made it, failures come back in a form a model can act on, and each agent gets only the scopes it needs.

- Why this name
- A tollgate is a controlled crossing; keys are the credentials. Together they say managed, safe passage for agents reaching outside services.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
One call shape for many services
Your agent uses a single request format and typed responses, whatever service sits behind it.

Hosted end-user sign-in
Drop-in connect flow for your users. Tokens are stored encrypted and refreshed before they expire.

Rate limits and retries handled
Per-service limits are queued and retried with backoff, so a busy agent does not get blocked.

Errors a model can read
Failures return a short structured reason and a suggested next step, so agents can recover on their own.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no prices for integration platforms. Exa lists prices on request; Replit (a developer-tool audience) lists $18 to $90 a month. Tiers are a starting point to test.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Visible inside customers’ products. The hosted connect screen that end users of each customer's agent see carries a small 'Secured by Tollgate Keys' line, which developers on those teams and nearby builders may notice.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are mostly end users, not developers, so conversion is uncertain. Test whether the connect screen badge brings any sign-ups from builders compared with content and community channels.
- First customers
- Seed-stage founders and solo AI engineers building agents that need 3 to 10 SaaS integrations, such as calendar, chat and CRM, with no dedicated integrations engineer.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Post build write-ups on agent auth, rate limits and error handling with a working example.
- Open-source agent communities: Publish connectors and examples for popular agent frameworks, then answer questions in their chats.
- Direct outreach: Message founders of new agent products and offer to set up their first three integrations.
- First milestone
- Ten teams with agents live on Tollgate Keys and five paying Builder plans within 60 days of launch.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialAn established provider already claims 250+ paying customers; a new entrant must win on a narrow angle such as agent-specific tracing and scoping.
- TechnicalEach service has its own auth quirks, limits and API changes; keeping integrations working is ongoing work that grows with each one added.
- PlatformThird-party services can change terms, require app review, or restrict access, which can break connections for all customers.
- RegulatoryStoring end-user tokens that reach personal data brings security duties and customer demands for audits and data handling terms.
- CommercialCustomers may build in-house once usage grows, so retention depends on saved maintenance time.
