About this appAI proposal
Mooring is a gateway for teams that run LLM features in production. You choose the exact model and version for each route, and Mooring checks that every response came from it. If a provider swaps the model behind an endpoint, you see it and can block it, instead of finding out from a user.
It is built for teams that have spent weeks tuning prompts against one model. Mooring records which model answered each call and keeps your pinned choice visible. When a change is unavoidable, it replays your saved test prompts against the new model and shows what differs before you move.
Mooring cannot make a provider keep a model alive. It can tell you quickly when something changed, route to a fallback you approved, and give you a written migration path.

- Why this name
- A mooring holds a boat in place while the water moves. The product holds your model choice in place while providers change theirs.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Per-route model pinning
Set an exact provider, model and version for each route. Requests that would resolve to anything else are flagged or refused, as you choose.

Swap detection
Reads the model identifier in each response and runs small fingerprint prompts on a schedule to catch silent changes.
No member yet
Approved fallbacks
Name a backup model for each route. Mooring switches only to what you approved, and logs every switch.

Replay before you migrate
Run your saved prompt set against a candidate model and compare outputs, cost and latency side by side.

The only price in the material is DeepSeek's usage plan (CNY 0.02 by usage). It gives no benchmark for a pinning service, so these tiers are a starting point to test.

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. Mooring reaches teams through developer channels and open-source SDK wrappers that other LLM tooling can adopt. Teams look for it after a swap breaks a feature, and shared drift reports help colleagues find it.
- Do they become customers?
- People who see drift reports are engineers on the same team and could become paying users. Test whether a free drift check on an existing API key leads to a paid pinning plan within 30 days.
- First customers
- Small teams of 3 to 15 engineers at startups that ship an LLM feature to paying customers and have tuned prompts against one provider's model.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Post a write-up on detecting silent model swaps with a free open drift-check script that links to Mooring.
- Direct outreach: Message engineering leads who have publicly complained about model changes and offer a free week of monitoring.
- Open-source SDK wrapper: Publish a small client library that adds model verification to existing API calls.
- First milestone
- Ten teams connect a key and five pay for pinning and alerts within eight weeks of launch.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimPaying customers who optimize prompts against a specific API model face involuntary model swaps when providers change model assignments
- Public claimAPI model providers change models served to paying customers without explicit opt-in, despite providing what they claim is a better version
- VerifiedDeepSeek's pricing page lists 1 paid plan, at CNY 0.02 by usage

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalProviders may not expose a reliable model identifier, so detecting silent swaps relies on fingerprint prompts that can give false alarms or miss subtle changes.
- PlatformMooring cannot stop a provider from retiring or replacing a model on its own side. It can detect and reroute, but not guarantee availability.
- CommercialTeams may build a basic version check in-house or accept provider changes. Demand beyond the Hacker News claims is unproven.
- RegulatorySitting in the request path means handling prompts that may hold customer data, which raises data processing and provider terms questions.
