About this appAI proposal
Tapemark estimates the size of freight on your dock using the security cameras you already have. It links each barcode scan to the shipment in the video, estimates length, width and height, and compares the result with the dimensions on the bill.
It is built for LTL carriers and cross-dock operators whose terminals measure only a sample of shipments because dedicated stations slow the dock. Nobody moves freight to a station, and no forklift takes a detour.
Mismatches go to a review queue with the video frame and both sets of numbers. A billing clerk accepts, edits or rejects each correction. Nothing changes in billing without a person approving it.

- Every pallet measured. No detour to a station.

- Why this name
- A tape mark is where a measurement is read. The name is two plain words joined, easy to say on a dock.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Works from existing CCTV
Connect fixed cameras over the terminal network. No dimensioning station, no new dock layout, no extra forklift travel.

Scan-to-video matching
Each barcode scan is tied to the shipment in the footage, so every estimate belongs to a real pro number.

Dimension variance queue
Shipments whose estimate differs from the billed size by more than your threshold are listed, largest gap first.

Evidence frame for every flag
Each flag stores a video frame, the estimate and the billed size, ready for a rebill or a dispute.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Terminal staff use it internally. Evidence frames may reach shippers in rebill disputes, but they do not become users of the product.
- Do they become customers?
- Shippers who see a frame are not buyers. Growth would come from sales to carriers. Test whether a carrier with several terminals expands after a one-terminal pilot.
- First customers
- Regional LTL carriers with several terminals and a billing audit team, starting with an operations or revenue-recovery leader.
- Where to reach them
- Direct outreach: Contact terminal managers and revenue-recovery leads at regional LTL carriers with a pilot on one terminal.
- Hacker News follow-up: Reach commenters and interested readers from the original post and offer pilot slots.
- Industry events: Meet carrier operations staff at LTL and trucking events to book terminal pilots.
- First milestone
- Three carriers run a four-week pilot at one terminal each, and at least one agrees to pay per terminal.

- Public claimCurrent dedicated dimensioning systems are operationally impractical for most terminals

RisksAI inference
- AIEstimates from ordinary camera footage may not be accurate enough to support rebills when freight is stacked, wrapped, occluded or seen from poor angles.
- TechnicalMatching a barcode scan to the right shipment in video is hard in a busy terminal with many pallets close together.
- CommercialCarriers may need proof of accuracy before they rebill shippers, and disputes could make them cautious about acting on flags.
- DataCamera access needs IT approval, bandwidth and secure video handling, and some terminals have old or badly placed cameras.
- CommercialEvidence shows interest on Hacker News and claims of customer demand, but the material has no verified buyer commitments or prices.
