About this appAI proposal
Fetchbed turns a folder of files into a search API. Connect cloud storage or a SaaS source, and it extracts text and images, splits and embeds content, stores it, and keeps the index current as files change. Your agent or search feature sends one query and gets ranked passages with sources.
It is for engineers who are tired of running extraction, chunking, embeddings, a vector store and re-ranking as separate parts. Retrieval combines meaning-based and keyword search, then re-ranks, so there is no tuning loop to maintain.
Each result shows which strategy found it, and a built-in test set lets you compare setups on your own files. That targets the complaint that teams cannot tell which retrieval approach fits their data.

- Why this name
- Fetch is what retrieval does; bed suggests a prepared place where files rest. Two plain words, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Connect sources, skip the ETL
Link cloud storage buckets and common SaaS document sources. Fetchbed syncs new, changed and deleted files without a job you write.

Text and image extraction
Reads documents, scans and images into searchable text, keeping the original page or region for citation.
No member yet
Hybrid retrieval with re-ranking
Runs embedding search and full-text search together, then re-ranks the merged results. Defaults work out of the box.

One query API
A single endpoint returns ranked passages, scores and source links. Filter by folder, file type or metadata.

Shape follows Cursor's verified pricing page (free, $20 and $40 a month, prices on request). Cursor is a different product; the material gives no RAG platform prices, so limits are a starting point to test.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Developers find it through content, docs and examples. The query API runs behind customers' products, and end users do not see Fetchbed, so use itself brings no new customers.
- Do they become customers?
- Test whether comparison write-ups and open example projects bring engineers who sign up and move from the free tier to a paid plan.
- First customers
- Small engineering teams of 2 to 15 building an AI agent or in-product search over customer documents, who now run their own RAG pipeline.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News: Share a benchmark post comparing retrieval strategies on public document sets, with the method open.
- Developer communities: Answer RAG questions on AI engineering forums and Discords, offering free setup for real cases.
- Direct outreach: Message founders and engineers who publicly describe struggles with their RAG stack.
- First milestone
- Ten teams index real files, and five of them pay for a plan within 60 days.

- Public claimBuilding a production RAG pipeline for file workloads requires substantial effort across multiple technical components.
- Public claimDIY RAG pipelines produce inconsistent results even after extended tuning efforts.
- Public claimTeams lack clarity on which retrieval strategies best fit their data.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialLarge model and cloud vendors may bundle file search, and teams may keep building in-house. Whether teams pay for a separate service is unproven.
- TechnicalGood defaults across very different file types are hard. Quality may vary, and a bad default would undo the no-tuning promise.
- DataCustomers' private documents are indexed. A leak or cross-tenant mix-up would end trust, so isolation and deletion must be right from the start.
- AIExtraction and ranking depend on third-party models whose cost, quality and terms change, which can squeeze margins.
- RegulatoryCustomers may ask for data residency or certifications before sending sensitive files; these take time and money.
