About this appAI proposal
Spare Copy keeps a second, independent copy of the files in your cloud storage accounts, such as OneDrive and Dropbox. If a sync error overwrites a document or a family member deletes a folder, you can restore an earlier version from Spare Copy.
It is built for households that share devices and accounts. One family plan covers several people and several cloud accounts, and each person sees only their own files unless they choose to share.
What sets it apart is the promise itself. The coverage list is shown in the app, and any change to it is sent to you in advance by email and in the app. Nothing is dropped quietly, and you can export everything at any time.

- Why this name
- A spare copy is what you keep for the day the first one is lost. The two plain words say the job without technical terms.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. The family plan asks the account owner to invite relatives. Each invitee connects their own cloud account and sees their own coverage, so use spreads inside a household.
- Do they become customers?
- Invitees are in the same household and already pay through the plan, so conversion to separate paid accounts is unproven. Test whether invitees later buy a Solo plan or bring friends.
- First customers
- Households in which one adult manages files for the family on OneDrive or Dropbox, and who have lost backup coverage when a provider dropped support.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit threads: Reply in threads on dropped cloud-folder backup coverage with a waitlist and an honest coverage list.
- Home IT help forums: Offer a free trial to people who help relatives with computers and recommend tools.
- Search for backup alternatives: Publish comparison pages for people searching for backup that covers OneDrive and Dropbox.
- First milestone
- Fifty waitlist sign-ups and ten paying Family households within 60 days of a first release.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimConsumers pay for backup software specifically to protect cloud storage folders from accidental deletion and corruption
- Public claimBackup software vendors are silently removing support for critical cloud storage backup without notifying existing customers
- Public claimBackup software vendors are prioritizing cost reduction over keeping critical backup promises, leaving users without protection when they need it most
- AI inferenceConsumers experience file loss when backup coverage for cloud storage fails unexpectedly

RisksAI inference
- PlatformCloud providers may limit API rates, change terms or restrict bulk reads, which could break the very coverage Spare Copy promises.
- CommercialStorage costs grow with user data. The cost cutting that drove competitors to drop coverage could hit this product too if pricing is wrong.
- TechnicalA web app cannot read local folders, so users who rely on desktop-only sync folders are not covered. Fit must be tested.
- RegulatoryHolding family files, including photos and tax documents, brings privacy and data protection duties that vary by country.
- DataRestoring must work years later. Silent corruption or failed syncs would destroy the trust the product sells.
