About this appAI proposal
Ownroom lets course creators, educators and digital product sellers run a fully branded school on their own domain. Host lessons, sell downloads, take payments and publish posts without a platform's name on the page.
Existing platforms such as Teachable, Podia and Thinkific are closed, limit branding and are not self-hosted, according to the opportunity's sources. Ownroom starts from the opposite point: your brand, your domain, and an export of your content and customer list whenever you want it.
It installs as a PWA, so students open lessons from their home screen with your icon and colours. Creators can use the managed version or host it themselves.

- Why this name
- A room you own, as opposed to a stall on someone else's platform. Two plain syllables that are easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Your domain, your brand
Colours, fonts, logo and page layouts are yours. Students see your school, never ours.

Worth about

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Each school's public pages, checkout and student app are shared by creators with their audiences. An optional, removable 'Built with Ownroom' footer on free and Solo schools shows the product to visitors.
- Do they become customers?
- Visitors are mostly buyers, not creators. Test whether the footer link leads other creators to sign up, and whether free self-hosters ever move to paid hosting.
- First customers
- Solo course creators and educators with an existing audience who pay a closed platform monthly and want their own branding, such as craft, music or fitness teachers.
- Where to reach them
- Creator communities: Join creator forums and groups, and offer free migration from Teachable, Podia or Thinkific to a few members.
- Open-source community: Publish the code, a docs site and a one-click deploy guide to draw self-hosters and contributors.
- Migration content: Write guides on leaving a closed platform with your students and content intact.
- First milestone
- Ten creators moved from a closed platform to paid managed hosting, with at least five still paying after three months.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialOpen-source interest (1,271 GitHub stars) does not show that creators will pay. Many may self-host free, and paid hosting must beat the cost of the platforms they use today.
- TechnicalCustom domains, protected video and many branded schools in one system are hard to run reliably and securely for a small team.
- PlatformPayouts through each creator's own Stripe account need onboarding and tax handling that creators may find harder than a platform that does it for them.
- Intellectual propertyThe name needs a trademark check, and any existing open-source course code reused must have a compatible licence.
- RegulatorySelling digital goods across countries brings sales tax and VAT duties. Creators will expect help, and the product must not promise compliance it cannot give.
