About this appAI proposal
Runway Lane is a cash flow forecaster for people with a checking account and one or more credit cards. It does not start from a monthly budget. It starts from the day money really leaves your checking account, such as a card payment due weeks after the purchase, and projects your balance forward day by day.
You see the date your balance dips below a floor you set, and which bills cause it. Payment timing is learned from your own history: whether you pay the statement in full, a fixed amount, or the minimum, and on which day.
It is for people whose spending changes from month to month and who keep a separate spreadsheet to see their true cash position. Import statements as PDF or CSV, and let an AI agent categorize them if you want.

- Why this name
- Runway is how long your cash lasts. Lane suggests a clear path ahead. Two plain words, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Payment-date forecasting
Card charges land on the day the statement payment leaves checking, not the day you swiped. The balance line reflects that.

Low-balance warnings
Set a floor per account. See the first date a projection crosses it and the items behind the dip.

Learns how you pay
Reads past payments to infer whether you pay in full, partially or on a set day, then applies that to future statements.

Statement import
Drop in PDF or CSV statements. Charges, statement dates and due dates are extracted for you to review.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Reached through content and communities where people discuss cash flow and personal finance tools. Forecasts are private, so use does not spread to others by itself.
- Do they become customers?
- Test whether people who keep a cash flow spreadsheet will pay to replace it, and whether they stay after manual import.
- First customers
- Freelancers and contractors in the US with irregular income, one checking account and two or more credit cards, who already keep a cash flow spreadsheet.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit: Share a free card-timing calculator and a write-up of why monthly net cash flow misleads. Invite comments.
- Personal finance forums: Offer to replace spreadsheets for early users. Ask for their templates to build the importer.
- First milestone
- Ten people replace their spreadsheet with it for two billing cycles and five pay for Plus.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedHacker News post received 15 points and 8 comments
- AI inferenceExisting personal finance apps model cash flow incorrectly—as net monthly transactions—when credit card charges post immediately but don't deduct from checking until the bill is due the following month, forcing users to manually track true cash flow elsewhere.
- AI inferenceBudget-focused personal finance apps don't serve users whose spending varies month to month and who find traditional budgeting ineffective.
- Public claimUsers pay for and depend on multiple competing personal finance platforms.

RisksAI inference
- DataWithout bank linking, users must import statements by hand. If that feels like the spreadsheet chore, they may drop off.
- TechnicalStatement formats vary by issuer. PDF extraction errors would corrupt the forecast unless review is easy.
- CommercialBudget apps the audience already pays for could add payment-date forecasting. The evidence is only one forum post with 15 points.
- AILearned payment habits may be wrong when behavior changes, giving false comfort about low balances.
- RegulatoryStoring financial data brings privacy and security duties, and later bank linking may add vendor and compliance requirements.
