About this appAI proposal
Tallyhouse is a shared ledger for groups who split costs and keep common money: flatmates, families, clubs, small teams. Everyone sees the same books at the same time, adds expenses, and settles up when the numbers agree.
It goes past splitting a bill. Groups get shared accounts, categories, monthly closes and a check that the ledger matches the real balance, all in plain language with no accounting terms required.
Your records stay yours. Export the full history to CSV at any time, and set your own categories, split rules and currencies. Setup takes minutes: name the group, invite people, add the first expense.

- Why this name
- A tally is the oldest way to count what is owed; a house is where shared money usually starts. Two plain words, easy to say.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. A group needs every member in it to work. The creator invites flatmates, family or colleagues by link, and each invitee sees the product while adding their own expenses.
- Do they become customers?
- Invitees live in the same group and may start their own group for another circle, such as a trip or club. Test how many invitees create a second group and how many groups upgrade.
- First customers
- Shared households of 3 to 6 adults in one city, where one person already keeps the spreadsheet for rent and bills.
- Where to reach them
- Flatshare communities: Offer a free book setup in local flatshare groups and student housing forums.
- Open-source accounting communities: Engage people in the GitHub project's community who want hosted, simpler shared books.
- Content: Publish a rent and bills split template with a one-click import into Tallyhouse.
- First milestone
- Fifty active households after four weeks, and ten paying for the Household tier.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialFree tools already cover splitting, and groups may not pay for more. Willingness to pay for reconciliation and history must be tested.
- TechnicalMerging simultaneous and offline edits to a ledger without losing or doubling entries is hard to get right.
- CommercialEvidence is a single GitHub repository's star count; it shows interest in free open-source tools, not payment.
- RegulatoryHolding financial records for businesses may bring tax and privacy expectations. Start as a tracker, not as certified accounting.
