About this appAI proposal
Tallyfold keeps your books in plain text files you own. Write transactions the way you would in a ledger file, and Tallyfold checks that every entry balances, keeps a history of each change, and turns the text into reports you can read on a phone.
It is for developers, freelancers, small business owners and the accountants who work with them: people who like text-based workflows but want to see balances away from the terminal, sync files between machines, or show a client a clean report.
Your data stays in an open text format you can export at any time. Tallyfold adds what a command line alone does not: hosted sync, a readable report view and an expiring share link.

- Why this name
- A tally is the oldest way to count; a fold is the page of a ledger. Two plain words, easy to say and type.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Plain text first
Edit transactions in a built-in text editor with account autocomplete and clear error lines. Files remain ordinary text.

Full audit trail
Every change is versioned with time and author, so you can see who edited what and restore an earlier version.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users send expiring read-only report links to accountants and clients, who see the Tallyfold-branded page and can learn the plaintext workflow.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are mostly clients and may not keep books themselves. Accountants viewing links are the likelier buyers; test how many click through to sign up.
- First customers
- Freelance software developers who already keep a plaintext ledger and send books to an accountant each quarter.
- Where to reach them
- Plaintext accounting forums: Post a walkthrough of syncing a ledger and sharing a report, and ask for early testers.
- Developer communities: Share a short demo on Hacker News-style boards and developer subreddits for freelancers.
- First milestone
- Ten freelancers on the Solo plan within 60 days, with at least three sharing a report link with an accountant.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialCommand-line users may stay with free tools and not pay for a web layer. Evidence is one repository's star count, which does not show willingness to pay.
- TechnicalStaying compatible with existing ledger file dialects is hard; small syntax differences could break users' files.
- RegulatoryUsers may treat reports as tax or legal records. Tallyfold must state it is bookkeeping software and not advice.
- DataHosted financial files are sensitive; sync needs strong encryption, access control and a clear breach plan.
