About this appAI proposal
Seatwise is a spend console for engineering leaders whose AI coding assistant bill grows with every new developer. You set a budget per team, role or project, and decide which model tier each group may use. Developers keep their editor and their assistant; Seatwise sits between them and the model provider.
Today, teams on GitHub Copilot or Claude tend to cut costs by removing access or switching everyone to a cheaper model. Seatwise offers a middle path: premium models for the work that needs them, lighter ones for routine edits, and limits that warn before they block.
It is built for organisations with 1,000 or more developers, where a few percent saved is real money. Finance gets a clear monthly report, and platform leads get controls they can change without a ticket.

- Why this name
- Seat is how assistants are billed, and wise is how the spend should be managed. Two plain words, easy to say in a budget meeting.

Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Budgets by team, role or project
Give each group a monthly allowance. See burn rate against it and get a warning before the limit, not after.

Model tier policies
Choose which model tier each role or repository may use, such as light for tests and docs, premium for design work.

Soft limits, not lockouts
At the limit, developers step down to a cheaper tier instead of losing the assistant. Admins can approve exceptions.

Idle seat finder
Spot paid seats with little or no use and reassign them with one action to a team that is waiting.

PricingAI proposal
Verified: GitHub Copilot's page lists paid plans from $4 to $21 a month plus a free plan. Seatwise tiers sit below that range as an add-on; the $2 figure is a starting point to test.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Managers send monthly spend reports as links to finance and executives, and share policy summaries with team leads. Each page shows the Seatwise name.
- Do they become customers?
- Report readers are mostly finance and leads, who may influence buying but rarely hold the budget. Test whether a report link leads a platform owner to start a pilot.
- First customers
- Platform engineering or developer-productivity leads at companies with 1,000 to 5,000 developers who already pay for an AI coding assistant.
- Where to reach them
- Direct outreach on LinkedIn: Message platform and developer-experience leads with a free spend audit from their usage export.
- Engineering leadership communities: Post cost-control write-ups in forums and Slack groups where these leads discuss tooling budgets.
- Hacker News: Share a guide on cutting assistant spend without removing access, linking to the free pilot.
- First milestone
- Three enterprises with 1,000+ developers run a pilot, and one signs a paid annual plan within 90 days.
Why people already pay for this
- AI inferenceEnterprise AI coding assistant costs scale to hundreds of thousands or millions annually for large teams
- Public claimClaude is more expensive for enterprise than GitHub Copilot
- Public claimGitHub Copilot offers cost management flexibility through cheaper model selection and access restriction
- AI inferenceCost burden is severe for teams over 1,000 users across both major platforms

RisksAI inference
- PlatformProviders may restrict proxying, change their usage exports or add their own budget controls, which would remove the gap Seatwise fills.
- CommercialEnterprises may prefer to negotiate directly with their provider, or want a cheaper assistant itself rather than a control layer.
- TechnicalA gateway in the request path adds latency and becomes a point of failure; it must fail open so developers are never blocked.
- RegulatorySource code passing through a third party raises security review and data-handling demands that slow enterprise sales.
- DataSavings estimates depend on usage data quality; tier step-downs may lower suggestion quality and developers may resist.
