About this appAI proposal
Pagecost is a web extraction and grounding layer for developers who scrape at scale. You describe the fields you want, set a budget per page or per day, and Pagecost fetches the page, cleans it and sends only the needed text to the cheapest model that passes your checks.
It is built for teams whose AI bill rose after a provider changed prices. You bring your own model keys, so you can switch providers without rewriting your pipeline. Every run shows its cost per page, which model handled it and why.
Unlike calling a model API directly, Pagecost caches results, trims pages before they reach a model, and stops a job when it hits your cap instead of surprising you at month end.

- Why this name
- Page plus cost: the two things the product measures on every run. Two plain syllable groups, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Budget caps per page, job and day
Set a hard limit. Jobs pause with a clear reason before they overspend, and you choose whether to resume, downgrade or stop.

Cheapest-model router
Try low-cost models first and move up only when output fails your schema or checks. Prices are entered by you, so you stay in control.

Bring your own keys
Connect any model provider you already use. Switch a job between providers in one setting when prices change.

Page trimming before the model
Strip menus, scripts and repeated blocks so fewer tokens are sent. See tokens saved on every page.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no competitor prices, only that a major provider raised its lite model price. These tiers are a starting point to test. Model usage is billed by the user's own provider.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Teams share cost reports and comparison links with finance, clients or colleagues who do not use Pagecost. The shared page shows the Pagecost name and a link to test their own pages.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers of a report are often budget owners, but they may only look once. Test whether shared reports lead to sign-ups from engineers on the viewing team.
- First customers
- Small engineering teams of 2 to 10 people running price or product monitoring scrapers that use a hosted LLM API and have seen their bill rise.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News: Post a worked example of cutting per-page cost on a public dataset, with the method and numbers open.
- Developer communities: Answer pricing-change threads in LLM and scraping forums and offer a free cost audit of a sample job.
- Direct outreach: Contact teams who publicly describe scraping pipelines and offer a trial on their own pages.
- First milestone
- Ten teams run real jobs, and five pay for Builder or Team within 60 days of launch.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimDevelopers use AI models for web scraping and API work with web grounding capabilities
- Public claimPrice increases are significant enough to force architectural changes and reduced usage
- Public claimGemini 3.1 Flash-Lite pricing increased significantly compared to prior generation
- Public claimDevelopers are price-sensitive to LLM API costs, particularly for lite models marketed as budget options

RisksAI inference
- CommercialProviders can cut prices or add their own caps and routing, which would shrink the savings Pagecost offers. Value must rest on control and visibility, not only on price.
- RegulatoryScraping can breach site terms or data rules. Customers must be told they are responsible, and robots.txt respect and rate limits need to be built in.
- TechnicalAnti-bot blocks and rendering failures raise fetch costs and break the per-page cost promise on some sites.
- AICheaper models may fail more often on messy pages. Pass-rate checks could cost more through retries than they save.
- PlatformDependence on third-party model APIs means terms or key policies could change how bring-your-own-key use is allowed.
