About this appAI proposal
Ironpipe is a control panel for running your CI/CD pipelines on bare metal servers you rent from low-cost providers. You connect a provider account, Ironpipe sets up the build host, and your pipelines run on dedicated hardware instead of a marked-up shared VPS.
It takes over the parts of self-hosting that people dread: provisioning, upgrades, disk cleanup, saved configuration and alerts when a host goes down. You keep the hardware bill small and stay in control of where your code builds.
It is for developers and small teams who see hosted CI as expensive for what it is, and who would self-host if outages and upgrades were someone else's job. You pay Ironpipe for the management layer, not for compute.

- Why this name
- Iron points to bare metal, pipe to the pipeline. Two plain words that are easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
One-step host setup
Connect a bare metal provider and Ironpipe installs the runner, container engine and cache. A new build host is ready without hand-written scripts.

Pipelines from your repo
Reads a pipeline file from your repository and runs jobs in containers, so moving off a hosted service means changing little.
No member yet
Cost per build view
Shows what each pipeline costs on your rented hardware, so you can compare it with your old invoice.

Managed upgrades and patching
Schedules OS and runner updates in quiet windows, and rolls back if a host fails its health check.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no competitor prices. It only says hosted CI is seen as overpriced for what is close to a VPS. These tiers are a starting point to test, and you pay the hardware provider separately.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Ironpipe is used by teams internally, and its work is not seen by outsiders. Growth would come from content on CI cost, comparisons and word of mouth among developers.
- Do they become customers?
- Readers of cost write-ups are developers who could become paying customers directly. Test whether a savings calculator turns visitors into trial hosts.
- First customers
- Small software teams of 2 to 15 developers who run Jenkins or a hosted CI on a VPS and pay a monthly CI bill they consider too high.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Post a hands-on write-up of moving a pipeline to rented bare metal, with real build times and costs.
- Savings calculator page: Let visitors enter their current CI bill and see an estimate of hardware plus Ironpipe cost.
- Direct outreach: Contact small teams who have posted about CI costs and offer a hands-on migration of one pipeline.
- First milestone
- Ten teams run a real pipeline on Ironpipe for a month and five of them pay for a plan.
Why people already pay for this
- AI inferenceExisting CI/CD services charge for what is essentially a dedicated or well-provisioned VPS, and developers see this as wasteful markup.
- AI inferenceBare metal infrastructure offers substantially better performance than over-provisioned VPS for CI/CD workloads, making it worth the operational trade-off.
- AI inferenceDevelopers can set up CI/CD solutions like Jenkins quickly using AI assistance and cheap bare metal providers, but this requires accepting operational risk.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalRunning customers' code on rented servers needs strong job isolation and secret handling. A single leak would end trust in the product.
- CommercialUsers may decide a single self-hosted CI server is good enough and not pay for a management layer. This needs testing.
- PlatformDepends on bare metal providers' APIs and terms. Changes or limits on automated ordering could break provisioning.
- TechnicalMatching the pipeline syntax of existing hosted services is hard, and migration friction could block adoption.
- CommercialThe evidence is inferred from a few comments and not verified. The size of the group willing to switch is unknown.
