About this appAI proposal
Tokenwatch Ledger tracks token spend for AI agent applications as it happens. Route your agent's LLM calls through a small proxy or SDK wrapper and see cost per run, per step and per tool, instead of finding out from a billing report days later.
It is built for developers and small teams running agent frameworks on third-party LLM APIs. Set a daily or per-run budget, get alerted when a loop starts burning tokens, and have the proxy pause or downgrade the run when a cap is hit.
The difference from a plain usage dashboard: it points at the waste. It flags repeated prompts that could be cached, steps where a cheaper model would do, and bloated context, with an estimated saving for each.

- Why this name
- Tokenwatch says it watches tokens; Ledger says every call is accounted for, line by line.

Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Live spend by run, step and tool
Watch cost build up while an agent works, and drill down to the exact call that was expensive.

Hard and soft budgets
Set caps per day, project or run. Soft caps alert you; hard caps stop or downgrade the run.

Runaway loop detection
Spots repeated calls and growing context that signal a stuck agent, and alerts you within minutes.

Savings suggestions
Finds cacheable prompts, over-powered model choices and oversized context, with an estimated saving for each.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. It runs behind the scenes in developers' own agent stacks. Growth comes from content on cutting agent costs, framework community posts and word of mouth, not from the product's own use.
- Do they become customers?
- Test whether developers who see a cost problem will pay for monitoring. Check whether free users hit the Free tier limits and upgrade for caps and suggestions.
- First customers
- Solo developers and teams of 2 to 10 running agent frameworks such as OpenClaw on Anthropic APIs, who already spend tens of dollars a day.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Answer threads on agent token costs with a free cost-per-run tool and a short write-up of tactics.
- Agent framework communities: Offer a ready-made proxy config for OpenClaw users in their Discord, forums and repositories.
- Technical blog posts: Publish worked examples of finding and cutting waste in an agent run, each linking to the free tier.
- First milestone
- Ten agent teams run it for two weeks, and at least three pay for the Builder tier after a measured drop in daily spend.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalA proxy in the request path adds latency and a failure point. It needs a fail-open mode so agents keep working if Ledger is down.
- CommercialEvidence is a single Hacker News post with 15 points and 5 comments. Demand beyond that thread is unproven, and LLM providers may add their own budget tools.
- DataPrompts may hold sensitive data. Hash-only logging and clear retention limits are needed to win trust.
- PlatformProvider API and pricing changes can break cost calculation. Support for each framework and provider needs ongoing upkeep.
- AISavings estimates may be wrong, and automatic model downgrades could hurt output quality if applied without testing.
