ScreensConcept
Desktop app: Developers analyze detailed spend breakdowns and session drill-downs at their desk to spot patterns and optimize prompting without frequent checks on the go. Sample screens on a computer, in the proposed brand. Their numbers are sample data.

About this appAI proposal
Tallyline reads your Claude Code session logs and sorts every dollar of token spend into activities: planning chat, file edits, shell commands, searches, test runs and more. You see which kinds of work cost the most, not only which model or which day. Built for developers and small teams with real weekly API spend who want to cut waste without guessing. Upload or sync session logs, and the breakdown appears in your browser as an installable app. Existing tools stop at model and daily totals. Tallyline goes one level down, to the task, so you can spot patterns such as long conversation turns with no tool use and change how you prompt.

- Why this name
- A tally is a count kept line by line, like the task-level lines of a spend breakdown. The name is plain and easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Spend by task type
Every session is split into activity categories, with cost and token share for each, so the biggest drains stand out.
No member yet
Turns without tools
Flags conversation turns that used no tools and shows how much of your spend they make up.
No member yet
Session drill-down
Open any session to see its costliest steps in order, with the prompt context that drove them.

Trends over time
Compare weeks to see whether a habit change actually lowered cost per task. Paid tier.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.

Worth about
$190,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users share a report link or image of their task breakdown, for example in posts and team chats. Viewers see the Tallyline name and can import their own logs to compare.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are other Claude Code developers, so they could become users. Test whether shared reports lead to imports and whether any of those move to a paid plan.
- First customers
- Developers and small engineering teams of 3 to 15 who use Claude Code daily and spend heavily each week on API usage.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News: Post a Show HN with a sample breakdown, since the source discussion drew 112 points and 27 comments.
- Developer communities: Share the free importer in Claude Code forums and Discord servers, inviting people to post their own breakdowns.
- First milestone
- 500 free imports and ten paying Pro or Team accounts within eight weeks of launch.
Why people already pay for this

- Public claimDevelopers spend substantial money on Claude Code without visibility into token consumption patterns across activities.
- Public claimTask-level cost breakdown reveals significant spending on non-coding activities, with over half of token spend going to conversation turns without tool usage.
- Public claimExisting cost tools provide only model and daily breakdowns, not the task-level insights developers need.

RisksAI inference
- PlatformDepends on the Claude Code log format, which Anthropic may change without notice and break parsing. Anthropic could also add its own task-level cost view.
- TechnicalSorting steps into task types is heuristic. Wrong categories would erode trust in the headline numbers.
- CommercialFree tools like ccusage already cover basics. Developers may not pay for analytics unless it clearly saves them money.
- DataTeams may refuse to upload usage data, even totals only, due to internal policy on code-related logs.
