About this appAI proposal
Reelnote is a review workspace for designers, editors and animators. Upload a cut or a design, share a link, and let clients leave comments pinned to an exact frame, timecode or spot on the image. Versions stay stacked so everyone sees what changed.
Teams can run it on their own server or use the hosted version. Your files and your data stay where you choose, and you can export everything. No closed ecosystem.
Feedback can be handed to your own AI agents through a simple API: sort comments into a to-do list, draft a reply, or prepare a revision checklist. You decide which agent and which model, and a person approves every change.

- Why this name
- A reel is the film you cut; a note is the comment on it. Two plain words joined, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Editors and designers send review links to clients and stakeholders. Each link page shows the product name and a small 'Reviewed with Reelnote' footer on free and Solo plans.
- Do they become customers?
- Clients who review may be freelancers or agencies with their own work to share. Test how many reviewers click through and start their own project.
- First customers
- Small video production studios and freelance editors of 2 to 10 people who send cuts to clients weekly and want to keep their files on their own storage.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and GitHub: Release the open-source core with a Show HN post and a one-command deploy guide.
- Editor and motion communities: Join editor forums and subreddits; offer free hosted setup to ten studios for feedback.
- First milestone
- Ten studios using it on real client projects, and five of them paying for hosted or support within 90 days.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedHacker News post received 63 points and 6 comments
- AI inferenceFrame.io is an existing proprietary product in the creative collaboration space with strong product design that teams use for uploading, feedback, and sharing.
- Public claimCreative teams need a unified workspace for multiple functions: file uploads, project management, feedback collection, sharing, and AI collaboration.
- Public claimExisting solutions lack openness and self-hosting capability, which teams want.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalFrame-accurate playback and transcoding of large files in a browser is hard, and hosted video storage and bandwidth costs could cut into margins.
- CommercialThe material shows only modest interest (a post with 63 points). Teams may stay with Frame.io for its polish, or want the open version but not pay.
- CommercialOpen-source core with self-hosting may mean most users never pay; hosted and support revenue must be tested.
- AIAgent-generated summaries can misread client feedback. Every suggestion must stay a draft until a person approves it.
- PlatformMobile browsers limit background upload and some video codecs, so large uploads from a phone PWA may be unreliable.
