About this appAI proposal
Spokenline lets you speak and have the words typed where your cursor already is: an email, a chat window, a notes app, a form. Hold a hotkey, talk, release. No plug-in for each app and no copy and paste.
Speech recognition runs on your computer by default, so it works on a plane and your audio stays on the machine. If you want higher accuracy on hard material, switch to cloud recognition for a single app or for everything.
A small helper on your desktop does the typing. A companion web app (a PWA) holds your account, custom vocabulary, snippets and history, and keeps them the same on Mac and Windows.

- Why this name
- A spoken line is what you say and what ends up on the page. The two plain words describe the product without any tie to a known brand.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Types into any app
Hold a hotkey and your words appear at the cursor in whatever app has focus. No per-app setup.

Offline by default
Local speech recognition works with no connection. Audio never leaves your computer unless you choose cloud.

Local or cloud, per app
Pick local for private chats and cloud for long, technical emails. Rules are set for each app.

Custom vocabulary
Add names, product terms and jargon once. They sync to your Mac and Windows machines.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Dictated text goes into other people's apps as ordinary typing, with no mark of Spokenline. Reach comes from search, content, open-source communities and word of mouth, not from the product's own use.
- Do they become customers?
- No built-in loop. Test whether free local users convert to Pro for cloud accuracy and vocabulary sync, and whether a referral offer between colleagues adds any signups.
- First customers
- Solo knowledge workers on Mac or Windows who write many emails and messages daily, such as consultants, founders and support leads, starting with those who value offline or private dictation.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and open-source communities: Reach people who starred or discussed local dictation tools. Offer a free local build and ask for feedback on accuracy.
- Productivity forums and subreddits: Post short demos of dictating into Mail, Slack and Word without setup, and invite testers to the free tier.
- Accessibility and RSI communities: Offer free Pro to people who type less for health reasons, and learn which features matter to them.
- First milestone
- 500 installs of the free tier and 25 paying Pro users in 60 days, from one group of heavy email writers.

- This app · Desktop helperSmall native app for Mac and WindowsA PWA cannot type into other apps or capture a global hotkey. The helper inserts text and talks to the PWA.
- This app · Local speech modelOpen-source on-device speech recognitionProvides offline dictation with no audio sent out. Model size and speed on older laptops must be tested.
RisksAI inference
- PlatformTyping into other apps needs accessibility and microphone permissions on macOS and Windows. Some apps, secure fields and admin windows may block inserted text. Signing and notarising are required.
- TechnicalThe product is mainly a native helper, with the PWA as a companion. Two codebases and two operating systems stretch a small team and the estimate.
- CommercialBuilt-in OS dictation is free and an open-source tool already drew attention on GitHub. Users may stay with free local use and never pay for cloud or vocabulary.
- AILocal models may be less accurate on accents, jargon and older hardware, and can lag. Poor first results would lose users quickly.
- DataCloud mode sends voice audio to a third party. Privacy terms, clear consent and no-retention settings are needed, and some workplaces may forbid it.
