About this appAI proposal
Shelfkey is a WordPress plugin with a phone-friendly dashboard for people who sell digital products: software, ebooks, templates and games. Add a product, set a price, and your own site becomes the store. Files, license keys and customer records stay with you.
It is built for freelancers, developers and small creators who find generic ecommerce plugins heavy and hosted platforms detached from their site. Setup is a short guided flow, and licensing, update delivery and download limits are core features, not add-ons.
The dashboard is a PWA, so you can check sales, resend a download link or revoke a license from your phone without logging in to wp-admin.

- Why this name
- A shelf holds what you sell and a key unlocks what buyers get. Two plain words joined, easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Short guided store setup

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Buyers see Shelfkey-powered checkout, download and license pages on sellers' sites, and receipts carry a small removable 'Sold with Shelfkey' link on the free plan.
- Do they become customers?
- Buyers are mostly consumers, but some are other creators or developers. Test whether the receipt link brings any sellers to sign up, and at what rate.
- First customers
- Solo WordPress plugin and theme developers who sell licensed downloads from their own site and handle licensing by hand or with several add-ons.
- Where to reach them
- WordPress developer communities: Post setup guides and migration notes in plugin author forums and Slack groups, with a free import offer.
- Content on licensing: Publish tutorials on selling licensed plugins from WordPress, aimed at people searching for alternatives.
- First milestone
- Ten paying Solo or Studio customers who are plugin developers, with at least five live license-key stores.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialEasy Digital Downloads is established with a large user base. Buyers may not switch without a clear gain on licensing and setup time.
- TechnicalPlugins must work across many hosts, themes and PHP versions. Compatibility testing and support could take more time than building the first version.
- PlatformDepends on WordPress and Stripe policies. Changes to plugin directory rules or Stripe terms could affect distribution or payments.
- RegulatorySelling to buyers in many countries brings sales tax and VAT duties. The product must either handle them or state clearly that it does not.
- Intellectual propertyWordPress plugins are usually GPL-licensed, so license keys cannot stop copying of code. Value must come from updates and support.
