About this appAI proposal
Tidyshelf collects documents from scanners, email and uploads into one inbox. It reads each page with OCR, pulls out dates, senders, amounts and topics, and suggests where the file belongs. You confirm with one tap, or let rules file it for you.
It is made for individuals and small teams who handle many documents from different sources and do not want to run a server. Open it in the browser or install it as an app on your phone and desktop.
Self-hosted tools exist for this job and the material shows lasting interest in them. Tidyshelf offers similar low-effort filing for people who would rather not set up and maintain their own system.

- Why this name
- A shelf is where papers sit in order, and tidy says the work is done for you. Two plain words, easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. A user invites family members or colleagues into a shared space to add and find documents. Each invitee sees the product in daily use.
- Do they become customers?
- Invitees handle their own documents too, so some may become paying customers. Test how many invited people open their own space within 30 days.
- First customers
- Small bookkeeping and tax-prep practices of 1 to 5 people who receive client documents by scan and email.
- Where to reach them
- Open-source DMS communities: Join forums and discussions where people ask for easier setup and offer a hosted alternative.
- Bookkeeper groups: Post in online groups for small-practice bookkeepers and offer a free pilot with onboarding help.
- First milestone
- Five small practices each paying for Team after a 30-day pilot, with at least 500 pages filed each.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedGitHub repository gained 2334 stars in 2643 days
- Public claimPeople accumulate documents from multiple sources (scanners, emails, other sources) and need assistance organizing them with minimal effort
- Public claimThe system incorporates OCR and NLP capabilities for document processing and understanding

RisksAI inference
- CommercialAn open-source, self-hosted rival is free. Buyers who want self-hosting may not pay for a hosted version, so demand must be tested with people who dislike running servers.
- DataUsers upload private papers such as tax and medical records. A breach or unclear data handling would end trust, so encryption and clear deletion are needed from day one.
- AIWrong metadata or poor OCR on bad scans leads to misfiled documents. Suggestions need visible confidence and easy correction.
- TechnicalOCR and storage costs grow with page volume. Page limits in the tiers must cover costs or margins fall.
- RegulatoryRetention reminders may be mistaken for legal advice, and some users may store regulated records. Wording must make clear that periods are user-set.
