About this appAI proposal
Inkwell Sign lets individuals and small businesses send documents for signature and collect legally recorded e-signatures, without paying for a large enterprise platform. Upload a PDF, place fields, send a link, and get a signed copy with an audit trail.
It is built for people who sign a few to a few dozen documents a month: freelancers, landlords, clinics, agencies and small shops. The core flow is free or low cost. Extras like reminders, templates and team use are paid add-ons, not a requirement from day one.
The signing record is designed around the US ESIGN Act and UETA principles: intent to sign, consent to e-records, and a retained record. This is a proposal, and counsel should review it before launch.

- Why this name
- Inkwell evokes signing by hand: ink, a pen, a signature. It is a plain, pronounceable word, and the page does not hide behind jargon. A trademark check is still needed.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Every signer opens a signing link and receives the signed PDF. The signing page and the certificate footer carry a small 'Sent with Inkwell Sign' line that links to a free sending account.
- Do they become customers?
- Signers are often small business owners who send documents themselves, so they may convert. Test what share of signers start their own account within 30 days, and whether paid users keep the footer.
- First customers
- US freelancers and small property managers who send under 30 documents a month and currently pay for or avoid a premium e-signature plan.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and indie forums: Post a Show HN-style launch aimed at people complaining about e-signature pricing, with a free tier to try.
- Landlord and freelancer communities: Offer ready-made lease and contract templates in online groups and answer questions there.
- Search content: Write comparison and how-to pages on cheaper e-signing and what makes a signature valid.
- First milestone
- Fifty free accounts send documents and ten convert to paid within 60 days, in one vertical such as property managers.

RisksAI inference
- RegulatoryLegal validity varies by document type and country. Some documents, such as certain wills or notices, may not be signable electronically. Counsel should review the flow and the wording.
- CommercialLow prices leave little margin, and free users may never pay. Incumbents could answer with cheaper plans. Conversion from free to paid must be tested early.
- TechnicalTamper-evident signed PDFs and reliable audit records are hard to get right. Errors would damage trust in every signed document.
- DataContracts can hold sensitive personal data. Storage, retention and deletion need clear rules, encryption and access controls from the first version.
- CommercialEvidence of demand is public claims from one forum. Whether buyers will switch from an existing provider is not yet verified.
