About this appAI proposal
Benchside is a browser-based workspace for developers who juggle several Git worktrees. Each worktree opens a full editor pane beside its branch status, with autocomplete, language servers, linters and formatting scoped to that worktree's folder.
It picks up your existing editor settings, keybindings and extension list, so the editor feels familiar on first open. You stop opening a separate editor window per worktree and stop hunting for the right one.
Built for people who find a quick-edit box too thin for real work. Benchside keeps the branch list, diffs and editing in one place, so context stays with you.

- Why this name
- A bench is where work gets done beside your tools. Benchside puts the editor next to your branches.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Full editor per worktree
Each worktree gets its own editor session with autocomplete, go-to-definition and inline errors, rooted in that worktree's folder.

Language servers and linters
Run language servers, linters and formatters per worktree, so diagnostics match the branch you are on.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Reached through developer communities, content and the repository tools' own issue threads. Editing is personal and produces no shared output that brings others in.
- Do they become customers?
- Readers of those threads are the paying audience. Test whether people who asked for this will install the helper and pay for Pro.
- First customers
- Solo developers and small teams who use worktrees heavily, including users of Orca-style repository tools.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub issue threads: Reply to people asking for an embedded editor in worktree tools, with a link to a demo.
- Developer forums: Post a short demo and write-up on worktree workflows in relevant communities.
- First milestone
- Twenty developers use it weekly for two weeks, and five of them pay for Pro.

- This app · Editor runtimeOpen-source web editor server (code-server style)Provides the full editor, language servers and extensions that a built-in editor box lacks.
- This app · Git worktree accessLocal helper agent using the git CLIA browser app cannot read worktrees on disk, so a small agent lists and watches them.
RisksAI inference
- TechnicalRunning a full editor server per worktree is heavy on memory, and extension compatibility with web builds of the editor may be partial.
- Intellectual propertyExtension marketplace terms and licences of editor builds may limit what an embedded product can offer. Needs legal review.
- CommercialEvidence is one GitHub issue with 38 reactions; repository tools may add editors themselves, and willingness to pay is unproven.
- PlatformA PWA depends on a local helper or remote server to reach files; setup friction could lose users before first edit.
