About this appAI proposal
Nestkey is a password manager built for the person in the household who ends up as the family's IT support. You create a family, send each person an invite link, and Nestkey walks them through setup on their own phone or computer in a few short steps.
Passwords are encrypted on the device before they are stored, so the service cannot read them. The organiser sees who has finished setup and who needs a nudge, never anyone's passwords. Shared vaults hold the Wi-Fi, streaming and utility logins everyone needs.
Unlike file-based tools that need setup and syncing on every device, Nestkey syncs by default and installs as a web app. You can import an existing KeePass file, so nobody starts from zero.

- Why this name
- A nest is a shared, safe home and a key opens it. Two plain words joined, easy to say aloud to a relative on the phone.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Invite link onboarding
Send a link or QR code. Each person gets a short guided setup: master password, install, first saved login. No files or servers to configure.

Setup progress board
The organiser sees who has joined, installed and saved a first login, with a one-tap reminder. No view into private passwords.

Shared family vaults
Keep household logins like Wi-Fi, utilities and streaming in a shared vault. Choose who can view or edit each one.

Private vault for everyone
Each member has a personal vault only they can open. Shared and private items sit together in one simple list.

What it could be worthEstimate

$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. The organiser invites each family member by link or QR code. Every invited person installs the app and sees the Nestkey name when they unlock their vault.
- Do they become customers?
- Invited members can become organisers of other circles, such as in-laws or parents' homes. Test how many invitees start their own family and how many organisers upgrade.
- First customers
- Tech-savvy parents who already use KeePassXC or a self-hosted tool and want their partner, kids and parents on a password manager.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit: Post in privacy and self-hosting communities where this adoption problem is discussed and offer early access.
- KeePass user forums: Offer a free KDBX import path for people moving their family off file-based tools.
- First milestone
- Ten families with at least three active members each, and five organisers paying for the Family tier.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimUsers face friction when trying to get family members to adopt password managers

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalEnd-to-end encryption, key sharing between members and recovery are hard to get right. It needs an outside security review before real families trust it.
- PlatformA PWA cannot autofill into other apps or browsers as well as native managers. A browser extension or native wrapper may be needed for daily use.
- CommercialEstablished family plans from other password managers exist. Differentiation rests on easier onboarding, which is only a public claim so far.
- DataHolding encrypted vaults means a breach would be severe for trust. Backups and key recovery must not weaken the zero-knowledge design.
- CommercialThe people who struggle to adopt a password manager may not pay. Willingness to pay of the organiser must be tested.
