About this appAI proposal
Steadybill is a billing layer for software companies whose subscriptions don't fit a standard plan-and-seat mold. You define plans, add-ons, trials, usage and B2B terms as rules, and it runs the cycle: quote, proforma, invoice, collection, retry and receipt.
It is built for teams selling across borders and to businesses. Invoices follow the numbering, tax lines and wording the buyer's country asks for. Proformas can be sent before payment, and local methods such as SEPA debit and iDEAL are handled as first-class options, not as special cases in your code.
It connects to licensed payment providers and leaves card data with them. Your app talks to one API and one hosted payment component, so you don't rebuild payment handling when you change provider or add a market.

- Why this name
- Steady points to reliable billing that behaves the same each cycle. Bill is the plain word for the job. Two ordinary words, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Rule-based subscriptions
Model odd plans: mid-cycle swaps, annual commitments with monthly billing, custom quotes, pauses. No parallel billing system in your own code.

B2B proforma invoices
Send a proforma first, turn it into a tax invoice when the buyer pays or the PO is approved, and keep both linked.
No member yet
Tax-aware invoicing
Numbering, tax lines, buyer tax IDs and invoice language set per country, so invoices fit local rules instead of a US template.

Regional payment methods
Offer SEPA debit, iDEAL and other local methods with one setting. Mandates and failed-payment states appear in one timeline.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives Stripe's page as one paid plan billed by usage, and reports Billing at 0.5–1% of revenue. Steadybill's flat tiers are a starting point to test; payment processing fees come from the connected provider.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Buyers receive proformas, invoices and the hosted payment page. Each carries a small 'Billed with Steadybill' line and a link, and buyers' finance teams see the flow.
- Do they become customers?
- Buyers are mostly finance staff at other companies, and some run their own subscriptions. Test whether the footer link produces sign-ups from them; most will only see it and not pay.
- First customers
- Small B2B SaaS companies (5–50 staff) in the EU that sell to other businesses across several countries and bill by annual contract with proformas.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and indie founder forums: Post a write-up of proforma and local-method billing pitfalls and invite teams with workarounds to a pilot.
- SaaS finance and accounting communities: Offer a free billing-setup review to founders who handle invoicing themselves.
- Direct outreach to EU SaaS founders: Contact companies that publish EU pricing with SEPA or annual invoices and offer migration help.
- First milestone
- Five paying B2B SaaS customers in the EU, each billing at least 20 live subscriptions through Steadybill within 90 days of launch.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimDevelopers are building custom subscription systems to avoid using existing payment processor billing offerings.
- Public claimSubscription systems in payment processors are inflexible and do not accommodate non-standard billing workflows.
- Public claimPayment processor support for 3DSecure implementation is unreliable and difficult to debug.
- Public claimRegional payment methods require complex custom logic despite payment processor claims they work out of the box.

RisksAI inference
- RegulatoryHandling payment flows may bring licensing, PCI and e-invoicing duties that differ by country. The first version should stay a billing layer over licensed providers and have a payments lawyer review it.
- TechnicalSubscription edge cases (proration, mid-cycle changes, retries, dunning) are hard to get right. Errors in money amounts cost trust fast, so heavy testing is required.
- CommercialTeams already have billing logic running. Migrating live subscriptions and mandates from an incumbent is a high barrier and may need hands-on help.
- PlatformSteadybill depends on provider APIs and terms. A provider can change fees or limits, and local methods may not be available through every provider.
- DataTax rules and invoice formats change often and vary by country. Stale rules could produce non-compliant invoices, so each market needs an owner and review.
