About this appAI proposal
Stillopen is a place data API for developers building AI agents and location apps. Send a place, get back a profile with a verdict: operating, closed, renamed or changed, plus the evidence and the date it was last checked.
It watches fresh web context such as news, events and public listings, and compares it with the place data you already hold. When something signals a closure or rebrand, your app is told before a customer finds out.
Every field carries a freshness date and a confidence level. Your agent can decide to book, ask a human, or look elsewhere, rather than trusting a stale snapshot.

- Why this name
- It is the question every agent needs answered: is it still open? Two plain words, easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Operating check
One call returns whether a place is open, closed, renamed or unclear, with a confidence level and the sources behind it.

Freshness on every field
Hours, name, category and contact details each show when they were last confirmed, so your code can set its own limits.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. Ship a ready tool definition for agent frameworks and an SDK, and list it where developers look for agent tools. Agents that call it show Stillopen in their tool lists and code.
- Do they become customers?
- Developers who add the tool are the paying customers, so reach equals acquisition. Test how many free-tier integrators move to paid once their usage passes the free limit.
- First customers
- Small teams building AI agents for restaurant, travel or local booking, with one or two developers who handle place data themselves.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and developer forums: Post a demo showing an agent that books a closed place with and without Stillopen, and offer free keys.
- Agent framework communities: Publish an open tool plug-in and examples in the communities of popular agent frameworks.
- Direct outreach: Email booking and local-search startups with a free stale-record report on a sample of their own places.
- First milestone
- Ten teams run a bulk report on their own data and three pay for the Builder tier within 60 days.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimAs AI agents scale their interaction with the real world (searching, booking, shopping), the problem of stale place data becomes significantly more acute.
- VerifiedHacker News post received 81 points and 60 comments
- Public claimApproximately 40% of Google searches and up to 20% of LLM prompts involve local context, creating large addressable demand.
- Public claimPlaces experience high churn, with 25-30% of places turning over annually, making data freshness a persistent infrastructure need.

RisksAI inference
- DataMatching news and web mentions to the right place is hard. Chains, shared names and moved businesses may cause false closure verdicts.
- CommercialDevelopers may keep using their maps API and only pay if stale data visibly costs them. Value must be shown in a trial on their own data.
- AIA model reading notices can misjudge them. Wrong verdicts erode trust fast, so confidence levels and cited evidence are required.
- PlatformMap providers' terms may limit storing or comparing their place data, and news or listing sources may limit reuse.
- CommercialThe Hacker News post says an existing company already serves leading mapping and tech firms, so a small team faces an established rival.
