About this appAI proposal
Inkmargin lets you open a lecture PDF or slide deck in one browser tab and write on it with a pen or stylus. Pressure is respected, the PDF text stays selectable under your ink, and everything works offline.
There is no sign-up. Notes and files are stored on your own device. When you change devices, you move a single portable file, or turn on optional encrypted sync. It is made for students on convertible laptops and tablets, and for tutors and trainers who mark up PDFs.
Study mode puts the slides on one side and your notes on the other. Snip a formula or diagram from the slide into your page. Export a standard PDF that opens anywhere, with your ink on top and the original text intact.

- Why this name
- The margin is where students write on a page. Ink says handwriting. Two plain words joined, easy to say.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Students export annotated PDFs and share notes with classmates, tutors or study groups. A small, removable 'Made with Inkmargin' link in the export footer and a share page point recipients to the tool.
- Do they become customers?
- Recipients are often students in the same course and could become users, but a PDF opened once brings no customer by itself. Test how many recipients open the tool and how many later start their own file.
- First customers
- University students in one STEM course type (for example first-year physics or engineering) who use convertible laptops or tablets to follow slide-based lectures.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit: Share a free demo with a short write-up in student and productivity communities, and collect feedback.
- Campus study groups: Offer the free tier to a few class groups and ask them to share exported notes.
- Tutor networks: Invite tutors who mark up PDFs to try the tool and give feedback on export.
- First milestone
- 200 weekly active students in one university, and 20 of them paying for sync within a semester.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalLow-latency inking and palm rejection vary a lot across browsers and devices. It may feel worse than native apps on some tablets, which would put off the core users.
- PlatformBrowsers can clear local storage under pressure, especially on iPad Safari. Users could lose notes unless backup and persistent storage prompts are solid.
- CommercialFree, no-account tools are hard to charge for. The material shows only early interest (18 points, 0 comments), so willingness to pay for sync is untested.
- TechnicalExporting ink onto PDFs while keeping text selectable and files small may fail on scanned, encrypted or very large slide decks.
- CommercialIncumbents already hold students' notebooks. Switching costs and import of existing notes may block adoption.
