About this appAI proposal
Pinstep is a browser-based workbench for writing Playwright automations against real websites. A live remote browser sits next to your code. You run one step or a few lines, see the page react, and click elements to get selectors. You do not rerun the whole script to test a fix.
It is for developers who automate back-office work in portals, practice management tools and other software with no usable API. Scripts are plain Playwright code you own. AI helps draft steps from what the browser shows, and you review every line.
Pinstep assumes that scripts against other people's sites will break. When a run fails, it keeps the page state at the failure so you can repair the step and resume from there, then redeploy.

- Why this name
- A pin marks the step you are working on. Pinstep names the idea of fixing one step at a time. It is two plain syllables and easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Run a single step
Select lines or a step and run only that part against the live session. Keep the page state between runs instead of starting over.

Click to find selectors
Inspect the live DOM, click an element, and get ranked selector options with a note on how likely each is to survive a site change.

Resume from failure
When a hosted run fails, Pinstep keeps the browser session and a snapshot. Open it, fix the step, and continue from that point.

AI drafts, you review
Describe a step in words and get Playwright code based on the current page. Output is a diff you accept or reject, never a hidden agent.

What it could be worthEstimate

Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. Teams share scripts, live sessions and failed-run snapshots with colleagues, who open them in Pinstep to review or repair a step. Contractors can invite client engineers to take over a script.
- Do they become customers?
- Invited colleagues are developers who can become paying team members. Test whether invitees on the free tier convert when a teammate's failed run is shared with them.
- First customers
- Small engineering teams of 2 to 10 at healthcare software and services companies who automate EMR, practice management and payer portals by browser.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and developer forums: Share a demo of fixing a broken step without a full rerun, and ask for teams with portal automations to try it.
- Healthcare tech communities: Post in health-IT and interoperability groups with a worked example of a portal automation that was repaired in minutes.
- Direct outreach: Contact engineers at small health-tech firms that list portal integration work, and offer a free setup session.
- First milestone
- Five teams in healthcare software each run a scheduled automation on Pinstep for a month, and at least two pay.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedHacker News post received 77 points and 36 comments
- Public claimDevelopers automating back-office workflows encountered serious friction with LLM agent approaches due to speed, cost, reliability, and debuggability challenges.
- Public claimHealthcare's fragmented interoperability ecosystem drives browser automation adoption as companies automate EMRs, practice management software, and payment portals through the web.
- Public claimScripting is a more reliable approach than LLM agents for deterministic, repeatable web automation tasks, but the scripting workflow itself was too painful to use without better tooling.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalStreaming a live remote browser with low latency, plus element picking on the stream, is hard. Slow or laggy sessions would remove the main benefit over a local desktop tool.
- CommercialDevelopers may keep using plain Playwright with its own tools. Pinstep must show that single-step runs and resume-from-failure save real time.
- RegulatoryAutomations in healthcare may touch patient data and logins. Hosted sessions would need strict isolation, credential handling and possibly HIPAA-style agreements.
- PlatformTarget sites may block automated browsers or forbid scraping in their terms. Hosted runs could be blocked, and customers carry the compliance risk.
- AIGenerated code may pick fragile selectors or wrong actions. Review diffs and stability notes must stay central so users do not trust output blindly.
