About this appAI proposal
Snapdown reads an image or PDF page of technical content and returns Markdown. Math becomes LaTeX, tables become Markdown tables, and body text keeps its headings and order. Paste a screenshot, drop in a scan, or send a batch.
It is built for developers, researchers and technical writers who copy equations and tables out of papers, slides and textbooks. Every result opens in a side-by-side editor, so you fix a wrong symbol in seconds instead of retyping the page.
Your output is plain Markdown and LaTeX with no lock-in. Export it, call the API, or keep a local history. Pricing starts below the one paid plan that the leading closed tool lists.

- Why this name
- Snap is the photo you take; down points to Markdown. Two plain syllables, easy to say and type.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Formulas to LaTeX
Inline and display equations are recognized and written as LaTeX, with a live preview next to the source image.

Tables that stay tables
Rows and columns come back as Markdown tables. Merged cells are flagged so you can check them.

Layout-aware pages
Headings, paragraphs, lists and figures keep their reading order on multi-column pages.

Many languages
Mixed-language text is recognized in one pass, so you don't pick a language first.

What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users can publish a converted page as a shareable link or copy Markdown with a small 'Converted with Snapdown' footer that is on by default on the free tier. Readers see the source image beside the text.
- Do they become customers?
- Readers are often fellow researchers and developers with the same need, so some may try it. Test whether link visitors convert to free sign-ups, and whether the footer is accepted or switched off.
- First customers
- Graduate students and researchers in math-heavy fields (physics, statistics, computer science) who take notes and write papers in Markdown or LaTeX.
- Where to reach them
- Open-source communities: Post comparisons and sample outputs in GitHub discussions and forums where people already look for free alternatives to Mathpix.
- University subreddits and Discords: Share a free tool for turning lecture slides and textbook pages into notes, with before and after examples.
- Note-taking communities: Offer a guide for getting equations into Markdown note apps, with a link to try Snapdown.
- First milestone
- 50 free users convert 20 or more pages each in a month, and 10 pay for Pro.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalAccuracy on handwriting, low-quality scans and merged table cells may fall short of paid tools, and users will compare results page by page.
- CommercialAn open-source tool with 3,268 GitHub stars is free to self-host. Users may not pay for hosting unless it is clearly faster or easier.
- Intellectual propertyOpen-source model and code licences must allow commercial hosting. Check each licence and its terms before launch.
- DataUsers may upload unpublished papers or confidential documents. Clear retention limits and fast deletion are needed to earn trust.
- TechnicalGPU inference costs per page could erase margin at $4 a month if heavy users run large batches.
