About this appAI proposal
Waymark lets product teams build in-app tours, checklists, tooltips and short surveys, then serve them from their own app and database. A small script shows the guidance, and a visual editor lets product managers change it without a release.
It is for product and engineering teams at software companies who pay monthly for hosted onboarding tools and want more control over data, look and cost. Guides use your own components and design tokens instead of a vendor's styling.
The difference: user data stays in your stack, flows live as versioned files you can review in code, and pricing is flat instead of a ladder of plans.

- Why this name
- A waymark is a sign that marks a trail. It says what the product does: it marks the path through your app, in two plain syllables.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Visual step builder
Pick an element on your live page, attach a tooltip or modal, and preview it. No code needed for product managers.

Checklists with progress
Create onboarding checklists that tick off when users complete real actions in your app.

Flows as versioned files
Export every flow as readable JSON. Review changes in pull requests and roll back a bad edit.

Your components, your styling
Render steps with your own design tokens or React components so guides look native.

Worth about

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. It runs inside customers' apps, but the guidance carries their branding, not ours. Growth comes from open-source docs, comparison content and developer communities.
- Do they become customers?
- End users who see a tour are not buyers of the tool. Test whether engineers who self-host convert to the managed or Team tier within 60 days.
- First customers
- Product managers and engineers at B2B SaaS companies with 10 to 50 staff who now pay for a hosted tour tool, or who built a basic tour by hand.
- Where to reach them
- Open-source communities: Post a self-host guide and a migration guide in developer forums and on GitHub.
- Comparison pages: Publish honest pages on cost and data control against hosted tools, using verified price pages.
- Founder communities: Offer a free migration of existing tours to small SaaS teams in return for feedback.
- First milestone
- Five teams paying for Managed within 60 days, each running a live tour for real users.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedGitHub repository gained 2316 stars in 622 days
- Public claimExisting proprietary platforms dominate the in-app onboarding and product tour market, indicating strong market validation and customer demand for this capability.
- AI inferenceThe open-source project has gained significant adoption and community interest, with 2,316 stars and 164 forks on GitHub.
- Public claimTeams seek alternatives to vendor lock-in by building in-app guidance with full control over their onboarding flows.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalAnchoring steps to page elements breaks when the host app's markup changes. Stable selectors and fallback behaviour are hard to get right.
- TechnicalThe script runs inside customers' apps, so size, speed, CSS clashes and security reviews matter from day one.
- CommercialOpen-source options already exist, and buyers may pick the free version and never pay. Willingness to pay for managed hosting is untested.
- CommercialCompetitors bundle analytics, NPS and other features. Teams may not switch for tours alone.
- PlatformMobile app support is not covered by a web PWA script. The first version covers web apps only.
