About this appAI proposal
Mailpier is an SMTP relay for developers whose hosting platform limits email or charges a premium for it. You get one SMTP login and one API key. Your app sends mail from there, whichever platform it runs on.
It is built for small teams that deploy on usage-priced infrastructure platforms. A plan change on your host no longer breaks password resets or receipts in production. You pay Mailpier for sending only, on a plan you can read in one line.
A live log shows every message, its status and the reason for any bounce. Setup checks your DNS records and tells you what to fix. Nothing is hidden behind a higher tier.

- Why this name
- A pier is a fixed point where things leave the land. Mailpier is the steady place your app's mail leaves from, no matter which host you move to.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Mailpier runs behind customers' apps and their recipients do not see it. It reaches customers through developer content, host-migration guides and community answers about broken SMTP.
- Do they become customers?
- Recipients cannot become customers. Test whether developers hit by a host's email restriction search for a fix and will pay $5 a month for a relay.
- First customers
- Solo developers and teams of 2 to 10 who deploy small web apps on usage-priced hosting platforms and lost or fear losing built-in email.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Answer threads about hosts restricting SMTP with a short migration guide.
- Host community Discords: Offer free setup help to users whose email broke after a plan change.
- Search content: Publish how-to pages for sending email from each popular host.
- First milestone
- Ten paying Builder customers from one hosting platform's community within 60 days.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedRailway's pricing page lists 2 paid plans, from $5 to $20 by usage, plus a free plan and prices on request for larger customers
- Public claimRailway states on its own website: Most customers save approximately 40% by switching to Railway
- Public claimRailway restricted SMTP email delivery to premium pricing after users relied on it in production
- Public claimThe pricing change broke production applications for some users

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalDelivery depends on sender reputation. Shared IPs can be harmed by one abusive customer, so spam screening and sign-up limits must exist from day one.
- CommercialMany email APIs already exist. Mailpier must show developers that a plan-independent relay is worth adding to their stack.
- RegulatorySending bulk mail brings anti-spam law duties such as unsubscribe handling and abuse complaints. Terms and enforcement are needed.
- PlatformHosting platforms may block outbound SMTP ports, so Mailpier needs an HTTPS API fallback for those hosts.
- DataMessage logs hold recipient addresses. Retention limits and deletion on request must be built in.
