Desktop app: Engineers review plans, generate foundations, and work with code, schemas and CI configurations—dense setup work best done at a workstation. Sample screens on a computer, in the proposed brand. Their numbers are sample data.

About this appAI proposal
Groundwork generates the whole starting foundation of a standard B2B web app in one batch: repository layout, Docker setup, sign-in, roles and permissions, CI pipeline, database schema and environment config. You describe the app in a short form, review a plan, and get a repository.
It is built for engineering teams of five or more who build CRUD-style products and want their time on features, not setup. Every generated file comes with a plain-language note on why it exists, so the team can read, audit and own the code instead of inheriting a black box.
It is deliberately narrow. Groundwork covers common web app patterns and says so when your design falls outside them, rather than guessing. Regeneration is scoped, so your own changes are not overwritten.

- Why this name
- Groundwork is the preparation done before building starts. It names the commodity layer plainly, and it is a common word.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
One-pass foundation
Repo structure, Docker, auth, roles, CI/CD and database scaffolding are generated together, so the parts fit each other.

Plan before code
Review a clear plan of every module and choice before anything is generated. Change a choice and the plan updates.

Explained code
Each file and pattern carries a short note on its purpose and how to change it, so new team members understand it quickly.

Role and permission matrix
Define roles and resources in a grid. Groundwork produces the checks, the database policies and tests for them.

The material gives no competitor prices. These tiers follow the monetization idea (per team, per repository, or one-time project fee) and are a starting point to test.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.

Worth about
$190,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Groundwork produces code in the customer's own private repository, so nothing is shown to others. Growth comes from content, developer communities and direct outreach.
- Do they become customers?
- Readers of content and posts can become customers directly. Test whether teams with a new project will pay after a free trial, and whether they return for regeneration.
- First customers
- Engineering leads at seed to Series A B2B SaaS companies with 5 to 15 engineers who are starting a new product or service in a standard web stack.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Share sample generated repositories and the audit report openly, and answer maintainability questions directly.
- Founder and CTO communities: Offer free trial foundations to leads about to start a new app, in return for feedback.
- Direct outreach: Contact engineering leads at companies posting for platform or backend roles for new products.
- First milestone
- Five teams in one stack each pay for a foundation and ship a first feature on it within two weeks.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedHacker News post received 13 points and 4 comments
- Public claimB2B SaaS teams spend approximately 80% of engineering effort on infrastructure and boilerplate setup before building differentiating features
- Public claimInfrastructure setup tasks are commodity work that customers do not pay for; only unique business logic creates differentiation
- Public claimGenerating entire architectural foundations at once—rather than piecemeal—can shift the feature-to-infrastructure time ratio from 20:80 to 70:30

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalGenerated foundations must build and pass tests every time. Each supported stack combination multiplies template upkeep and testing.
- CommercialEvidence is thin: one Hacker News post with 13 points and 4 comments. Teams may keep using existing starter repos or AI assistants instead.
- AICommenters doubt long-term maintainability of generated infrastructure. Poorly explained or inconsistent output would erode trust quickly.
- CommercialThe approach fits only standard web apps and CRUD products, which limits the market and can disappoint teams with unusual designs.
- RegulatoryGenerated auth and permissions are security-sensitive. Teams may expect guarantees that a generator cannot give, so liability and wording need care.
