About this appAI proposal
Coverlane helps founders of robotics, drone, autonomous-system and satellite companies get insured. You describe your machine once in plain technical terms. Coverlane turns it into an underwriting-ready submission instead of a standard business form.
It keeps a map of which carriers have adopted AI exclusion clauses, which ones will cover control models, and why past requests were declined. You see what would change an underwriter's answer before you apply, not after a denial.
Built for the moment a pilot or first customer asks for a certificate before your machine can come on site. The proposed model: the carrier pays the brokerage on placement, so the company pays no fee.

- Why this name
- Cover is what founders need; lane suggests a clear path through a confusing market.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Technical profile to submission
Describe hardware, autonomy level, operating sites and AI use once. Coverlane writes a submission built for underwriters.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no competitor prices. It states the brokerage earns 10-20% commission from carriers with no fee to the company, so the free tier is a starting point to test.

Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Founders send insurance certificates and requirement summaries to pilot customers and their risk teams. Each carries the Coverlane name and a link to the submission.
- Do they become customers?
- Customer risk teams see it once, but peer founders at the same customer may become users. Test whether recipients with their own vendors request it.
- First customers
- Seed to Series A founders of robotics companies preparing a first paid pilot that needs a customer-required insurance certificate.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and founder forums: Post worked examples of AI-exclusion wording and how denials were resolved.
- Robotics accelerators: Offer office hours on pilot insurance requirements to portfolio founders.
- First milestone
- Five robotics companies place cover through the service within 60 days of launch.

- Public claimFrontier tech companies encounter a gatekeeping requirement to reach customers: pilots or first customers require insurance coverage before the machine can work on their site.
- Public claimTraditional brokers use standard business application forms that do not fit frontier tech companies, and underwriters often deny coverage based on misunderstandings of the technology.
- Public claimInsurance companies add AI-related exclusion clauses that void coverage without clear disclosure; these clauses are embedded in ISO standard forms with account-by-account adoption and no public record of which insurers apply them.

RisksAI inference
- RegulatoryBrokering insurance requires licences in each jurisdiction. The product needs a licensed broker of record or partner before it can place cover or earn commission.
- DataThe carrier map depends on carrier behaviour that is not publicly recorded. It must be built from placements and declines, so it starts thin and may go stale.
- AIClause flagging by a language model may miss or misread wording. Outputs need broker review and must not be presented as legal advice.
- CommercialCommission of 10-20% on small early-stage premiums may be too little to fund a service-heavy team until volumes grow.
- CommercialCarriers may decline to work with a new broker on novel risks, which limits placements regardless of software quality.
