About this appAI proposal
Tallybook is one workspace for small service teams. Log time against a project, turn approved hours into an invoice, and see what each person is owed, without copying numbers between tools.
It is built for freelance teams and small service companies that now run time tracking, projects, invoicing, payroll and contacts in separate apps. Each module shares one set of clients, people and rates, so a change made once shows up everywhere.
Start with time, projects and invoices. Add people records and pay summaries when you need them. You pay for the modules you use, not for a full ERP you will never set up.

- Why this name
- Tallybook evokes a simple tally of work done, a ledger kept in one place. It is two plain words and easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Timer that knows the project
Track time against a client, project and rate. Entries are billable by default and can be corrected on a phone.

Approved hours become invoices
Pick a period and Tallybook drafts an invoice from approved time and fixed fees. Edit it, send it, and track payment.

One client record
Contacts, deals, projects and invoices hang off the same client, so nobody retypes details.

Pay summaries from tracked time
See hours, rates and pay owed per person for each period, ready to export to your payroll provider.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Clients receive invoice and project-status links that carry a small Tallybook mark. Each link shows the work and hours behind a bill and lets the client pay or approve.
- Do they become customers?
- Clients who open an invoice are often small businesses with their own billing needs, but this is unproven. Test how many invoice recipients click through and start a trial.
- First customers
- Small design, marketing and consulting studios of 3 to 15 people that bill by the hour and now use separate time, invoice and spreadsheet tools.
- Where to reach them
- Freelancer communities: Offer a free migration of one month of time and invoices in forums and Slack groups for agencies and consultants.
- Accountant referrals: Ask bookkeepers who serve small studios to try the export and recommend it to clients who send messy hours.
- Comparison content: Publish guides on replacing a stack of time, invoice and CRM tools with one workspace.
- First milestone
- Ten studios send real invoices from tracked time for a month, and at least five pay for a plan.

RisksAI inference
- RegulatoryPayroll rules differ by country and state. The first version only summarises pay and exports it, and full payroll filing would need a partner and legal review.
- CommercialTeams may stay with tools they know, and a broad product may be judged module by module against specialist apps.
- TechnicalMoving time into invoices and pay needs careful rounding, rate changes and edit history, or trust in the numbers is lost.
- DataThe product holds client, pay and personal data. It needs strict access control and a clear data-retention policy.
- CommercialThe material gives only one competitor's pricing, and open-source alternatives are free to self-host, which caps what small teams will pay.
