About this appAI proposal
Bayline is an iSCSI initiator for macOS with a web console. A small signed helper on the Mac makes the connection to your targets. The installable web app is where you add portals, set CHAP credentials, log in to targets and watch session health.
It is for Mac users and administrators who work with NAS, SAN or lab storage and have found that older initiators stopped working on current macOS, or that commercial ones cost more than the job justifies.
The difference is upkeep. Bayline checks each new macOS release and tells you before you update whether your sessions will survive. It is priced as a plain alternative, not an enterprise suite. This is a proposal and has not been built.

- Why this name
- A bay is where storage sits, and a line is the link to it. Two plain words joined, easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Portal and target discovery
Enter a portal address, see the targets and LUNs it offers, and log in with one click. Saved portals reconnect on their own.

CHAP and mutual CHAP
Store credentials in the macOS Keychain through the helper. Secrets never pass through the web app's servers.
No member yet
Session health view
See state, latency, errors and reconnects per session, so a dropping link shows up before a volume goes missing.

macOS update check
Before you update macOS, Bayline reports whether your installed helper version is known to work with it.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives one price, $250 for Atto Xtend, from a public claim on Hacker News that is not verified. It gives none for GlobalSAN. These tiers sit well below $250 as a starting point to test.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Bayline is used on one Mac to reach storage, and nothing it produces is shown to other people. It reaches customers through search, forum answers and storage-vendor community posts.
- Do they become customers?
- People searching for a working macOS iSCSI initiator are ready to buy. Test whether a trial converts to a paid licence, and whether admins add more Macs after the first.
- First customers
- Small video and photo studios and home-lab users who run a NAS or SAN with iSCSI and use Macs for editing or work, with one admin who decides.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit threads: Answer posts asking for a macOS iSCSI initiator, link a trial and ask for feedback on supported setups.
- NAS vendor forums: Post setup guides for common NAS brands and ask members to test the beta.
- Search content: Publish pages on iSCSI on macOS and why older initiators stopped working, each pointing to the trial.
- First milestone
- Ten paying customers within 60 days of the beta, in studios or home labs, each keeping a session connected across one macOS update.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimThird-party iSCSI initiators for macOS are either outdated and broken or very expensive.
- Public claimThere is demand for iSCSI initiator support on macOS.
- Public claimCommercial iSCSI initiator software costs $250.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalmacOS offers no simple supported way to add a block-storage initiator. A user-space or system-extension approach may need Apple entitlements and may break in later releases, which is the failure this product aims to fix.
- PlatformA PWA cannot mount storage. The product depends on a native helper that needs installation, notarization and user approval of system permissions, which adds friction and review risk.
- CommercialThe evidence is three public claims from one forum thread. Real demand and willingness to pay at the proposed prices are unproven, and the market may be small.
- DataHandling CHAP secrets and storage access makes security flaws costly. Credentials must stay on the Mac, and the fleet view must be designed so it never holds them.
- CommercialAtto may cut its price, or a vendor may ship a free initiator. A small team must also keep pace with every macOS release, which is ongoing work.
