About this appAI proposal
Reelroot tells Linux desktop users what quality each streaming subscription is likely to play on their setup, before they sit down to watch. Save your distro, browser and display, and see reported results per service: 4K, HD, SD or black screen.
Reports come from other Linux subscribers with similar setups, with the steps that worked for them. A cross-service watchlist shows where a title plays best on your machine, so you stop finding out halfway through a film.
Reelroot is not a streaming service and does not bypass copy protection. It is a clear map of a patchy situation, built for people who pay and want to know what they are paying for. Shared reports also give users evidence to send to the services.

- Why this name
- Reel for film, root for the Linux admin account and for getting to the root of a problem. Two plain words, easy to say.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.

$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users share setup cards and result links in Linux forums, distro chats and support threads. Readers see their own distro's results and are prompted to add a report.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are the same Linux subscribers, so they can become users. Test whether link visitors sign up and file a report, and whether any pay for Plus.
- First customers
- Linux desktop users who pay for two or more streaming services and are active in developer and distro communities, starting with one popular distro.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit: Post a Show page and answer threads where Linux users complain about 4K and black screens on paid services.
- Distro forums: Seed one distro's results with its own members and invite reports there.
- First milestone
- 500 test reports from one distro's users in 60 days, and 25 paying Plus subscribers.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimNetflix restricts 4K playback on Linux for paying subscribers
- Public claimAmazon Prime Video delivers degraded experience (black screens or SD quality) on Linux while pirated versions work in 4K
- AI inferencePaying customers face more restrictions than piracy users

RisksAI inference
- CommercialReelroot reports the problem but does not fix playback. Users who want 4K itself may see little value, and the pull of the underlying complaint is only a public claim.
- DataCrowd reports may be sparse, outdated or wrong for many setups. Without enough early reports per service and distro, the results screen is empty.
- PlatformServices change their rules without notice, so reports go stale fast, and a service could object to the use of its name or titles.
- RegulatoryFix notes must never describe bypassing copy protection. Moderation is needed to keep reports within the terms of the services.
- DataReliable per-service title availability needs a licensed data source, which adds cost and may limit the watchlist.
