About this appAI proposal
Placecheck Gate is a validation API and dashboard for teams whose apps let an LLM recommend, book or navigate to real places. You send the places the model produced plus the user's constraints. It replies for each one: does it exist, is it open, and does it match price, cuisine and area.
Built for AI developers and agent builders who today either ship unverified suggestions or check venues by hand against a maps service. Placecheck Gate sits between the model and the user as a quality gate, and a test runner replays sample prompts so you see failures before production.
It does not replace your model or your maps data. It returns a clear pass, fail or uncertain verdict with the reasons, so your code can drop, replace or ask again.

- Why this name
- Place is the thing checked; Gate is the checkpoint between model output and the user. Two plain, pronounceable words.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Existence and status check
Confirms a named place resolves to a real venue and flags permanently or temporarily closed ones before the user sees them.

Constraint matching
Compares each place with the request: price range, cuisine, neighborhood, and more. Each mismatch is listed with the reason.

Three-way verdicts
Every result is pass, fail or uncertain, with a confidence note, so your code can decide whether to drop, retry or ask.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no competitor prices. These tiers are a starting point to test, with API pricing by validation volume as the opportunity suggests. Real costs depend on the data source.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. Ship small plugins and examples for common agent and LLM frameworks, so developers add the gate to a pipeline in a few lines, and list it where those tools list extensions.
- Do they become customers?
- Integration users are developers who can become paying customers directly. Test whether framework listings and examples bring sign-ups that move from free to paid.
- First customers
- Small teams building LLM travel, dining or booking assistants, where a closed or fake venue directly causes a failed booking.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Publish a test run of common prompts showing failure rates and invite builders to try their own.
- Agent framework communities: Offer a ready example in community channels and repos for booking and recommendation agents.
- Direct outreach: Message founders of AI travel and dining apps with a free test run on their own prompts.
- First milestone
- Five teams building location-based AI apps each run the gate in staging, and at least two pay for a monthly plan.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimLLM models reliably recommend locations that are closed, fabricated, or don't match user constraints.
- Public claimThe constraint matching gap between best and worst providers is significant.
- Public claimAll tested models failed at booking closed locations.
- Public claimWeb search integration in LLMs can worsen booking task performance.
- Public claimThe signal's organization is building a validation API to address these failures.

RisksAI inference
- DataLicensed places data may be costly, restrict caching or reuse, and be out of date for newly closed venues, which limits accuracy and margins.
- PlatformMaps providers could add LLM output checking themselves, or change terms so that validation as a resold service is not allowed.
- CommercialDevelopers may accept a manual maps lookup as good enough; willingness to pay per check is unproven.
- AIConstraint matching on vague text such as 'cozy' or 'nearby' can give wrong verdicts, so uncertain results must be handled openly.
- CommercialThe Hacker News post says its organization is building a validation API, so a funded competitor may already exist.
