About this appAI proposal
Openpane is a membership home for independent browsers. Browser projects use it to offer supporter plans. Users who want to pay for the browser they use can do so monthly or yearly, much like joining a news publication.
Each project publishes a public budget and a roadmap split into core work, such as rendering, security and speed, and side initiatives. Supporters decide how their money is directed, so they can pay for the browser without paying for projects they see as distractions.
Part of every supporter plan can be set aside as seats for people who cannot pay, so the browser stays free for everyone. Openpane is a web app that installs like an app. It does not replace the browser engine itself.

- Why this name
- A pane is a browser window, and open points to transparent, independent work. Two plain syllables, easy to say.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Supporters share a public impact card and each project embeds a ledger page. People who see them reach a page with the project's plans and the join button.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers of a ledger page can become paying supporters on the spot. Test whether a share of visitors to a project's page convert, and whether supporters share the card.
- First customers
- One or two small open-source or independent browser projects with an active community and a maintainer who wants recurring funding.
- Where to reach them
- Browser project forums: Offer maintainers a free pilot and a ledger page for their community to try.
- Hacker News: Post a Show HN with a live ledger and ask commenters who said they would pay to join.
- Privacy communities: Share the funding model in privacy-focused forums and newsletters with a pilot sign-up.
- First milestone
- One browser project and 100 supporters paying monthly within 90 days of launch.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialComments say people would pay, but they are public claims. It is unproven that a project's users convert at a rate that covers real development costs.
- PlatformOpenpane needs a browser project to adopt it. Without a partner project, it has nothing to fund and no supporters.
- RegulatoryRouting money to projects may require payout compliance, tax forms and handling of donations versus subscriptions in several countries.
- CommercialLarge browser organizations already run donation pages. Supporters may prefer to pay them directly, or the projects may not accept a split.
- DataThe public ledger relies on projects reporting spending honestly. Mistakes or disputes could erode trust quickly.
