About this appAI proposal
Rung is an SSH workspace that runs as an installable web app. Keep your hosts, jump routes, terminals, file transfers and port forwards in one window instead of juggling a terminal, an SFTP tool and a config file.
It is built for system administrators and DevOps engineers who manage many servers. Each host is a saved card with its jump route, keys, forwards and recent files. Open it and the terminal, file pane and tunnels are ready together.
Unlike one-time-licence desktop clients, Rung syncs across your machines and lets a team share host lists with roles and an audit trail. SSH traffic goes through a small gateway or a local agent you run, and the page says which one is in use.

- Why this name
- A rung is one step on a ladder, like one hop in a jump-host route. The word is short, easy to say and easy to type.

Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Host cards with jump routes
Save each server once with its user, key and jump-host chain. Drag hosts into groups and open a route in one click, with no config file editing.

Terminal with split panes
Tabs and split panes with searchable scrollback. Sessions reconnect after a network drop and keep their place.

Built-in SFTP pane
Browse, upload, download and edit remote files beside the terminal for the same host. Transfers queue and resume.

Port forwards you can see
Create local, remote and dynamic forwards per host, see which are live, and start or stop them from one list.

PricingAI proposal
Material shows XShell at $119 to $399 one-time on its pricing page. Rung's subscription prices are not from the material; they are a starting point to test against that one-time anchor.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. Admins share host groups with teammates, who must open Rung to connect. Contractors and new hires join through an invite link to a group.
- Do they become customers?
- Invitees are working admins and can become paying users, but most will stay on the free tier. Test how many shared groups lead to a paid Team seat.
- First customers
- Small DevOps and managed-service teams of 3 to 15 people who manage 30 or more servers through jump hosts and share host lists by hand.
- Where to reach them
- Open-source SSH communities: Post the OpenSSH config import and a demo in GitHub discussions and forums where people compare SSH clients.
- DevOps subreddits and Hacker News: Show the host card and jump-route flow, and offer the free tier for individual use.
- Direct outreach to MSPs: Offer a pilot of shared host groups with audit log to five small managed-service providers.
- First milestone
- Five teams paying for Team seats, each with at least one shared group of 10 or more hosts, within 60 days of launch.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalA web app cannot make direct SSH connections. Every session needs a relay or local agent, which adds latency, hosting cost and setup that native clients avoid.
- CommercialFree and one-time-licence tools are entrenched, and admins may refuse to switch from a one-time purchase to a subscription.
- DataHandling private keys and server access is high stakes. A breach or a doubt about the vault design would end trust, so independent review is needed before launch.
- PlatformPWAs have limited access to the filesystem, background tasks and local sockets, especially on mobile browsers, which limits transfers and tunnels.
- CommercialThe GitHub interest in the material shows attention for a native GPU client. It does not show that admins want a browser-based one.
