About this appAI proposal
Hopmark opens a code folder on your device, parses it with Tree-sitter grammars, and lets you search symbols and jump to definitions and references. It runs as an installed web app, so it works with no connection and sends no code anywhere.
It is built for developers who move between several languages and find that language servers are good in some and weak in others. Hopmark uses the same parsing approach across languages, so results feel alike whether you open Go, Python or Lua.
It is a navigator, not an editor. Use it beside your editor to read unfamiliar code, trace calls and copy file:line locations, or as a fallback when a language server is missing, slow or offline.

- Why this name
- A hop is a jump to a definition; a mark is the place you land. Two plain words joined, easy to say and type.

Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Works fully offline
Install once. Grammars, index and search live on your device. No account needed to read code, and no source leaves your machine.

One method for many languages
Tree-sitter grammars give the same definition and reference queries across languages instead of a different server for each.

Jump to definition
Tap or search any symbol to land on its definition. When names clash, you get a ranked list with file, kind and scope.

Find references
See every place a symbol is used, grouped by file, with a line of context for each hit.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Hopmark spreads through developer communities, content and search. Its use produces nothing that other people see, so there is no built-in loop in the first version.
- Do they become customers?
- Readers of posts and demos can install it and pay. What to test is whether solo developers stay past the free tier and whether teams adopt it together.
- First customers
- Solo developers and small-team engineers who work in three or more languages and read unfamiliar code often, such as consultants and open-source maintainers.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit: Post a Show HN and share a demo in programming communities where offline Tree-sitter navigation was asked for.
- Open-source maintainers: Offer free Pro to maintainers of multi-language projects in return for feedback and public mentions.
- Developer newsletters: Pitch short write-ups on navigating code where language servers are weak.
- First milestone
- Fifty weekly active users on real projects and ten paying Pro subscribers within eight weeks of launch.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimLSP implementations have inconsistent quality across programming languages
- Public claimThere is no offline Tree-sitter equivalent tool available for code navigation
- Public claimDevelopers actively use code navigation tools like dumb-jump

RisksAI inference
- PlatformThe File System Access API is not available in every browser, so folder access may be limited on some desktop and mobile browsers.
- TechnicalTree-sitter finds symbols by syntax, not types, so it can return several candidates where a language server resolves one. Users may judge accuracy harshly.
- TechnicalLarge repositories may be slow to index in the browser and strain memory and storage limits.
- CommercialDevelopers expect navigation inside their own editor. A separate app may be used rarely, and many will not pay for it.
- Intellectual propertyEach bundled grammar has its own license. These must be checked before shipping them.
