About this appAI proposal
Postbell is an open-core customer messaging platform. Product teams connect their own email, SMS, push, WhatsApp and Slack providers, build audiences, and run journeys that send transactional and marketing messages from one place.
It is for software teams and product managers who do not want a closed engagement suite, or who now glue single-channel tools together by hand. Run it on your own servers or let us host it. Your data and provider accounts stay yours.
What is different: a small workspace you can set up in an afternoon, bring-your-own-provider routing, and white-label settings from the start, so agencies and platforms can ship it under their own name.

- Why this name
- A bell is a simple, old way to get someone's attention, and a post is how messages get delivered. Two plain words, easy to say.

The material gives no price for an engagement platform. Twilio's verified page lists usage plans from $0.01 to $0.07, which are provider costs you pay directly. These tiers are a starting point to test.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Reached through open-source discovery, documentation, comparison content and developer communities. Messages sent to end customers carry no Postbell branding by default.
- Do they become customers?
- End recipients cannot become buyers. Test whether developers who self-host convert to paid cloud or white-label, and whether agencies resell it.
- First customers
- Small SaaS product teams of 5 to 30 people who now glue together separate email, SMS and push tools and want one self-hosted system.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and Hacker News: Publish the open core with a one-command install and a write-up on replacing three single-channel tools.
- Developer communities: Answer questions in self-hosting and product engineering forums, and offer migration help.
- Agency outreach: Offer white-label workspaces to small agencies who manage messaging for several clients.
- First milestone
- Ten teams self-hosting, and five paying for cloud or white-label within three months of launch.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialAn open-source project with about 3,000 stars already exists in this space. Postbell needs a clear reason to be chosen over it, and free self-hosting may convert few users to paid.
- RegulatorySending SMS, WhatsApp and marketing email brings consent, opt-out and anti-spam rules. Customers carry much of this, but the product must make compliance easy.
- PlatformWhatsApp and push providers have approval steps and policy changes that can block sending or break adapters.
- TechnicalReliable delivery at volume, with retries and no duplicate sends, is hard for a small team and drives support load.
- CommercialSupport and hosting revenue depends on teams valuing not running it themselves, which is untested.
