About this appAI proposal
Drift makes playlists and radio stations around one control: how adventurous you want to be. Slide toward Familiar for songs close to what you already play. Slide toward Unknown for deep cuts and artists you have not heard.
It is for people who pay for music streaming and feel the recommendations keep repeating themselves. You choose a starting point, such as an artist, a playlist or a mood, and set the dial. Every station and playlist keeps its own setting, so you can run one safe and one wild.
Drift is a proposal. The idea comes from public comments that existing services play mostly what users already like and give no simple way to change that, and that Google Music's radio had more variety.

- Why this name
- A drift is a slow move away from where you were. The name suggests easing into new music at your own pace, and it is short and easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
The discovery dial
One slider from Familiar to Unknown on every station and playlist. Change it at any time and the next tracks follow.

High-variety radio
Start a station from an artist, song or mood. It aims for a wide spread of artists rather than repeating the same few.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users share generated playlists as public links with the dial setting shown, such as 'Unknown 90%'. Recipients can preview the list and open it in their own streaming app.
- Do they become customers?
- Recipients are music fans like the users, so some may try it. Test how many who open a shared playlist connect an account and then pay.
- First customers
- Paying streaming subscribers who talk about music online and say their recommendations are stale, starting with one streaming service's users.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit: Post in music and discovery threads where users complain about repetitive recommendations, with a free demo link.
- Music newsletters: Offer curators a free account and shareable dial playlists to include in their issues.
- First milestone
- Fifty free signups from one community, and ten of them paying for Plus within 60 days.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimSpotify's algorithm defaults to playing familiar music and lacks user control over discovery temperature
- Public claimUsers want an adjustable parameter to control the balance between familiar and novel recommendations
- Public claimGoogle Music's radio stations provided superior discovery with high variety compared to current alternatives

RisksAI inference
- PlatformStreaming services may restrict API access, limit playback or change terms. The product could lose its main data source or its ability to save playlists.
- DataGood discovery needs enough listening history and track data. Users with little history or a niche taste may get weak results.
- CommercialStreaming apps could add a similar control. People may also not pay extra for a feature they treat as part of their existing subscription.
- Intellectual propertyUsing catalog data and cover art may be subject to licence terms. These need checking before launch.
